I mark my balls with either the Greek letter Psi (looks kinda' like a pitchfork) or the traditional symbol for Planck's constant reduced (small h with a bar through it). My reasoning is simple here.

 

Most folks have at least heard of Heisenburg's uncertainty principle. It states that you cannot know the exact position and exact momentum of a quantum particle at the same time. And the more you know about one, the less you know about the other.

 

Planck's constant and Psi (traditional symbol for the quantum state of a particle) are fundamentally part of the Heisenburg uncertainty principle.

 

Now the Rules of Golf state that you cannot hit the ball while it is moving so it is required that you know EXACTLY the momentum of the ball when it is struck (that is - ZERO). Therefore you (per the Heisenburg uncertainty principle) cannot know where the ball is (position) when it is struck.

 

So it is obvious that it is almost impossible to hit a good stroke under those conditions and obviously, if I make a bad stroke, it isn't my fault!

 

So I mark my ball with Psi and Planck's constant.

Orange dot in the Callaway Chevron. I buy the recycled balls at walmart... $17.00 for a 24 pack of used balls is pretty good for a duffer like me..

Hi There,

A very usful tip is to use a Sharpie of Stabilo permanent marker, but (and this is a really usful tip) wipe the area to be marked with nail polish remover first to get a better mark on the ball.

After I have checked and marked the equator of the ball with a product called the "Check and Go" my signature is put on that line.

I then use this line as a reference for putting and lining the ball up on tee shots.

I use pickerjohn's method. I also play yellow Top Flights and have never seen anyone else using them. And for the failsafe, I circle the number with a black sharpie.

I like to take a colored sharpie and trace the first 3 letters of Titleist and then fill in the centers of the 8 4 or 6 on the number or if its 1-2-3-5-7 I draw a line through the number. My favorite is a Prov1x I played the whole round with at Chambers Bay recently. Lucky #7 with a blue line through it. 3 out of 4 of our group played the same ball the whole round. What are the odds ?

I changed my marking to a black dot in the callaway chevron. blacked out number and an orange 11 above that. Its in memory of one of my friends who died. i dnt miss many putts with him in my bag.

I did exactly that yesterday with a ProV1x #6, played with a mini tour pro didn't know he marked his the exact same way, wasn't a prob until 15 and we both striped one down the middle, I went to the shorter ball saw the blue dot and hit, he went about 20 yards farther up and hit, get to the green and he said "you mark you ball with a blue dot?" yea #6 and I pick up a #4 (his ball!) so now I mark with a red and blue dot!!!!
