Miura CB57 Review

I guess everyone knows why Jack plays the CB57s????

Because he's Jack Nicklaus and he can play whatever the hell golf club he wants to play.

It's a nice validation for the rest of us.
Wow. I did not know that... ! I always just imagined he'd play Nicklaus clubs...

Can the OP and anyone else give me a quick contrast on the 57s vs PP9003sn vs cb501 in turf interaction and forgiveness? Thanks

 • 4 months later...

In the interest of keeping the reviews in one place, here are my thoughts on this club.

Turf interaction is not something that i focused too much on in the past. Ive had blades and gi sets and although the turf interaction was always different, nothing was ever a game changer for me. This is the first set of irons for me that really stood out in a positive way.

Looks. Either you like it or don't like it. I will say, however, that i was always a chrome guy but the satin finish is beautiful.

Launch is surprisingly high and it is more forgiving than it looks.

Feel is not as soft as an endo forging, but i would say its pretty similar to a mizuno mp64.

I will update again when the honeymood period ends.

I went from Titleist 712 CB/MB combo (3-5CB, 6-pw MB) to Miura CB57 (4-6) and Miura MB001 (7-PW) in early July.

I found that the Miura's didnt dig as much and if it did dig, the clubs tend to "bounce" out of the turf immediately.

They are really soft on pure strikes. I'd say more harsh on really bad mishits. The feelings of slight mishits is negligible between the two sets.

I didn't feel the Miura's launched any higher than the Titleist, if anything I felt a lower/more penetrating ball flight with the Miuras.

Recently switched from MB001s to CB57s and the change has gone surprisingly well. The topline is just a smidge bigger, but not too distracting. The feel is very solid, just like the MB001s. Not sure if it's the heads or the new shafts (now using Nippon tour 120x), but my ball striking has never been better and recently posted my personal best of 75. Hopefully this will last and not just be a honeymoon effect.

Anyone who's read any of my thoughts on modern irons knows I think the J40CB was the best cavity back iron I've EVER hit in over 30 years of golf. So this past winter I called Chip (Usher) and told him to build me another set of J40's like he'd done the previous year. After a lengthy discussion (thinking I had my mind made up) he talked me into him building me a CB57 7-iron with DGTI X100 and letting me take it for a spin. Now Chip has built me several sets of Miura MB's over the years but being blunt about it, I've never found a Miura CB I was fond of.

When the 7-iron arrived, I took it to the practice area and chipped with it. In chipping around 40 balls from a winter Bermuda lie, I was really impressed with the way the club acted around the green. Next was some 35-80 yard knockdowns and after a few balls, I found it very simple to control trajectory and spin. Finally, I went to the range and after a dozen full shots, I realized these would be in my bag this year.

I went home that evening and replaced the X100 with a Modus 125X. The next morning I went back to hit some knockdowns and full shots and it didn't take long for me to know I had my combination for the year. I've played from the desert in Vegas and Phoenix to the rain-soaked courses around Memphis and Ohio/WV this year and the 57's performed flawlessly. If I could pick a word or two to describe them to anyone it'd be "very user friendly". Make no mistake, they're not a GI by any stretch of the imagination but they do offer a margin of error not found in any MB I've encountered and is well suited for pickers and diggers alike.

The answer to better golf is hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I found the CB57s to be softer than the MB001, just very very slightly, do you find the same?

The combo set is good. For the shorter irons, I get more trajectory control. With the long irons, i get a bit more forgiveness on mishits.
To be really honest, the MB/CBs require a lot of maintenance haha, I need a full range session to get back into the groove after 1 to 2 week hiatus from golf usually....
The longer irons in CB helps with confidence behind the ball.
As mentioned I switched the 6i from MB to CB and once in awhile I'd wonder if I would have liked it in MB as well but the CB57 is just so soft...I don't think I'd enjoy the MB001 6i as much as I do now with the CB57.
The 6i 712MB was club I'd grind with at the range...now its the 7i MB001.

I agree with Kizdoc, the topline is just a smudge thicker but not noticeable unless someone calls it out.

I don't think I'd go with a full set of MBs or full set of CBs in the near future. I like the combo sets.

So I have had these 57 in play throughout the summer. No secret they are awesome. I wanted to hear from my pal who is a pro and plays MP4. He reports they are as soft feeling and get through the turf just as easy. He just gets a few more yards on average. It's the only cavity he would play...
Testament to mizzy but also Miura as he wont let me take mine outta the bag unless it's for a mizu iron.

Folks, I need some help. Can you please post what shafts have you used for the CB57, and can anyone comment on their experience with aerotech steelfiber 95 shafts on the Cb57's.
thanks,
I started with Nippon super peening Blues, and then a short stint with modus 120's, and now fairly dialed in with the 125's since May I believe.

I also demoed ctapers and ctl's, but the 125's gave me the best feel and weight. I've played around quite a bit with length and soft stepping, and have settled with stiff soft stepped once at standard US length at D2 swing weight. This is about as close as I am going to get with the Grail search.

it's the best iron i've hit in a long while...beautiful lines and a nice compact look at address...extremely forgiving and i hit it just as long or longer than my rsi-tp irons...very very consistent yardage and ball flight for me!
I just spit up my oatmeal on that one LOL. You are correct, it's called jacked lofts and longer shafts but you've got me thinking, maybe I should trade my CB57's in on some TM irons, NOT!

I bought PP 9003 this last spring. My fitter didn't have the 57's and I liked the 9003 so much I just went with it. When posters talk about "soft" feel I have found with my 9003 I agree with some of the earlier discussions in this thread, 9003 didn't feel soft, it felt dense and solid on good strikes. I tired out 714 AP2's recently and they felt softer than my 9003's. Could be the shaft but the strike to me felt softer in the AP2's.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but before I played the 9003 I heard about softness but that hasn't been my experience.
