After 2:00 I believe.

so almost every us open ever has been hosted at a course with a poor design?
[/quote]

U.S. Opens are different and you know that. They do that because even great designs will be eaten up by a Pro. A great design mixes short and long holes, puts birdie and double in play on every hole, requires good driving and putting and changes direction and elevation throughout.

So you are basing your statement that BPB is a horrible design on rough height and FW width? That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. BPB design is outstanding. Hole 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, & 18 are magical.

I would love to see if you can find ONE person on this board that has played BPB that will agree with you (other than your family :)).

I have played it about 50+ times.... as a resident... for $54-$74.

Personally, I would NEVER pay $230 (without cart BTW) to play there as a non resident.

Save yourself $150 and go play Pauma Valley instead. Your round won't be 5+ hours, and the course is a better course. You can then gamble the $150 at the casino there.

I used to play as a resident for about 20 bucks... back in the 80's. But it does have great views and is a legendary course for the golf ho in you. But, there are nicer courses in the area for less bucks. I'm not sure what kind of shape it is in these days, but I always enjoyed Balboa Park.

Hey, I know it's not a popular opinion by golfers. My company is actually a partner in a business with a famous architect. One night over dinner, he is asking me about all the places I've played. So, I start with his courses first and then go through the top 20 of the top 100 on the list. I mentioned BPB and he just laughed. Interested in it as I thought he was chuckling about being on there and my feelings about it, he says "that's not a great golf course. They tricked it up to be so hard just so they could label it the hardest golf course. But hard doesn't equal great. They protect it with small fairways and ridiculous rough. If that course is in Indiana, are we even talking about it? No. Keep going, I am interested in the others."...I make my way down to Torrey Pines and he laughs again. I remark that I know, I know, it's not a great golf course. He says, "Great? It's not even a good golf course! Every f-ing hole on the course is straight! A chimp could have designed that one! Again, put it in Indiana and it doesn't crack the state's top 10. Let's be real and just say you are there to see the Pacific for 4 hours."

He also had poor things to say about Pebble Beach and St. Andrews but I'll save that for other conversations.

I was listening to PGA Tour Radio about 2 years ago and they had Tom Doak on to talk about his Course Confidential or whatever it's called book. One of the questions from the host was give him a couple of courses that get a lot of recognition that he doesn't agree with...his two picks: Torrey South and BPB.

So, I am not alone with the premier minds behind this in the world. They simply aren't good golf courses in my estimation...take that for what it's worth which isn't much...just ask my wife. ?

Thanks again for all the input. It looks like I won't be able to play after all. Just called the course to try and confirm a tee time for next Monday and was told that the South course was fully booked due to a Corporate outing that starts at 1:00 p.m. Bummed!

He said the North course was open and as a walk up I would wait maybe 20 minutes. He wouldn't confirm a tee time though. How is the north course?
