State For a Good Golf Trip

Recommended Posts

My and my pops are going on a golf trip the week of October 12th. We would like to play one round at very nice course but the rest of the time we would like to play for no more than $100 each per round. Could you guys recommend an area/state to go to. Please accommodate weather and other activities as well. Thanks.

Fly in to the ABQ area and play the big round at Paa Ko ridge, and then pick from some other great tracks ala twin warriors, UNM champions, Santa Ana, cochiti.

Paa ko is a golf digest 5 star and best in the state for like 15 years and it is PURE. Max rate is $117 on weekends until oct 31st. 27 holes too, do the replay.

Everywhere else is under $100 easy

Just a little caveat if you're thinking about AZ in October. Most courses have just finished overseeding so conditions aren't perfect.

St George UT. Courses have been open 2 weeks now from overseeding and will be great in a month. All are well under your budget and Mesquite NV is 30 minutes away. Also, lots of very affordable hotels.

There is a local airport but many fly into Vegas for the better rates.

Disclaimer - I live here, but golf is one of the reasons I'm here.

Total homer but Colorado has a lot of fun courses to offer with some of the best scenery you'll find anywhere. All of the mountain courses should still be open if you want to make sure you spend $100 on a round lol. They'll be on the chillier side though. Weather in the Denver area should still be in the 70s or 80s at that time consistently. The Grand Junction area will probably still be in the upper 80s if you want to go that way. You could go the other way and play Ballyneal if you stay the night out there. You'll be looking at $200+ for the room, $300 for the round each, and $100+ for a caddie. But you can probably play 36 or even 54.

I loved the golf in Colorado, my brother lives in the Denver area and I've played on visits. My last trip we played riverdale dunes which I thought was a fantastic value, and we also played heritage which was just ok IMO. Previously played Colorado national and Murphy creek. My beef with it was that there seemed to be lots of driving involved vs centralized golf, and like you said, some of the golf can get really pricey.

That was why I suggested ABQ, you can get some really outstanding golf for cheap.

Another place I would suggest that is off the beaten path would be the tri cities area of TN, you've got some beautiful courses in that area and it's crazy cheap! Coming from the desert of AZ, I absolutely loved greysburg hills, redtail mountain and crockets ridge, and I think he mkst we payed was like $45 in October.

I agree with the Bend, Oregon recommendation. Many good to great courses for under $100. The weather is just starting to get cold in the mornings. There are lots of good breweries if that is the nightlife you are looking for.

Another option is Monterey, CA. You could play one of the Pebble Beach properties (Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay for big money) and then play Bayonet and Blackhorse. Both are under $100. This is one of the best times of the year to play the CA coast.

There are also several other inexpensive courses in the Monterey area (as well as other high priced ones). Many options.

Nightlife / restaurants abound in and around Monterey.

Go to the "Courses By Regions" section at the top of this forum and then California and seach the forum for "Monterey". For Bend, search the "Northwest" forum for Bend. You will get a ton of hits and ideas for both areas.

I live in Denver lol and my dad lives in a suburb about 30 minutes out. We we're thinking getting a condo in the mountains and just playing there. Thanks for the response.
