I'm going to post an update to this once I get some good pictures taken. Since I posted my last update - I have been through a few sets:

Driver: Sold the 975J and R1 - bought a RBZ Tour, PING I25, PING G15. I sold all but the G15 and also have an original GBB Hawkeye in 9*
Fairways: Still have the 'deuce' and 2 deep. I also went through a RBZ Tour 14.5* and a PING I25. Both of those are gone
Hybrids: G25 is gone - picked up an 18.5* RBZ Tour
Irons: Eye 2's were sold as well as the original 962B's with S300. I picked up a set of 712 CB's that didn't last long. I am selling my RBZ Tour's and will play a set of 2-PW 962B's with X100 shafts
Wedges: SM4's were sold with the CB's and I picked up a set of SM5's. Those were also sold and I went with TM TP in 54/60 for the RBZ Tour iron set, those will be sold. I currently have a 54/60 set up of original Cleveland RTG
Putters: (oh so many). Sold the anser 2 to a co-worker who needed a putter. Went through an FGP, couple Scotty's, a counterbalanced TM, another TM anser blade, and back to my FGP

It's fairly evident for me that changing clubs hurt, more than help my game. Since I'm more settled and work on my game more, my handicap went down 1.5 strokes from my original update. I actually prefer the early 2000's era of clubs and are dirt cheap to pick up and try. Not to mention, they are straight up fun to play!!

Current make up:

Driver: GBB Hawkeye 9* (retro make up) or G15 7.5* (modern)
Fairway: Warbird deuce (retro make up) or 2 deep (modern)
Hybrid: RBZ Tour 18.5* (if needed) - rotates with 2i
Irons: 2-PW Titleist 962B with X100's
Wedges: Rusty Cleveland RTG 54/60
Putter: See-more FGP (34") with Pingman grip

I will get pictures loaded after I catch some time.

Was the SC beach a little too firm for you? I've heard that complaint from others who have used them along with complaints about it sounding a bit too tinny on impact. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
[/quote]

Yes, very hard feeling off the face - plus I wasn't a fan of the sound either. I've always putted better with the FGP so I'm sticking with that. I also like to have an anser style as a back up for when I need a different look.

Finally took some pictures after being on the range today. After a few good range sessions with the GBB and the Deuce - I am going to get rid of the 3Hy and PING G15 that I have. Sticking with this set up.

Honestly, after going through all of the clubs in one of my posts above - I don't see how that newer equipment ever helped me lower my scores. In fact, with all the switching that I did - it hurt more than helped. Since all of this stuff now in my bag are clubs that I played circa 2000 - I am very comfortable with it. I don't mind the smaller driver head (~250cc) and love the traditional lofts of the 962b's. The distance of my BB warbird 2 is about the same as my 2deep - believe it or not.

Only club that I purchased new was the FGP.

The original ProForce Gold shafts are nothing short of amazing! I know you are a fan also...

I original thought the deuce was short. I took it out on the course vs the 2deep and was neck and neck.

I then figured out I was only going by what I was doing on the range and hadn't compared in an 'on course' scenario.

Love everything about this bag. It's so refreshing.

I played in a 4 man a few weekends ago and my partners were making fun of the driver. Needless to say we took most of my tee shots. It's all about making good contact. I love a good players bag and for some reason this era of clubs really gets me going. Every 2nd hand store is littered with them

I worked in the golf business for many years and I use to tell my clients that changing to the latest and greatest everytime something comes out is more of a detriment to their games than helping. I get the whole, trying something new and tinkering to gain an edge, but unless you really are struggling and need something that will build confidence, then keep what gets you there. If your clubs are worn out or broken, then try something similar by the same manufacture, but once you make that decision, stick with it and play them good or bad until you groove them into you swing. Nice bag of tool sir!

Well I went back and reviewed this thread since you refreshed it. Well I did change some I got too old and lost too much SS to swing the UST Pro Force 65s any more but still confer they were some of the greatest shafts ever when I was able to swing them. As far as traditional lofts that still does not bother me. Who cares if I am hitting my old 8 iron where others are hitting their GW?

Agree BIG STU. I’m 43 and don’t blink an eye when the “flatbellies” are hitting one or two less clubs than me. Now that I’m trying to get my daughter into the game it’s mostly about sharing what makes this game special. But yes, I still can’t resist when a sweet putter pops up in the used bin!!

For most of this season I had been using the Callaway Warbird 2W (deuce) for my driver - occasionally mixing in the 9* Hawkeye or a 9* 815 Big Bertha I had picked up used. Most recently I demoed and decided to purchase a Taylormade Original One. The shop only had a 13.5* so that's what I went with. It's since replaced the deuce and the other two drivers. The 2deep was sold last year.

I find the original one is more forgiving off the tee. It's right on par distance wise with what I am trying to be, so it's gotten the nod.

So now the set up is:

D: TM Original One - 13.5*

2H: Titleist 585H - 19*

Irons: Titleist 962B (3-P)

Wedges: 54/60 Cleveland RTG Raw

Putter: See-More FGP

Bag: Taylormade Flextech

Funny thing I re read the thread and you were talking about the 2 wood---- I have several nice ones all persimmon. One of my buds over on the classic thread told me to try one I would like it. So today messing around on the range I hit my 1957 Macgregor Cloverleaf and liked it. Most of the older guys have trouble elevating persimmon drivers but I do not I actually launch my Power Bilt higher than I do a modern metal. With roll out I only lose about 15 yards or so. All of my persimmon drivers I launch high. I was actually hitting that 2 wood off the deck and launching it. As far as putters I am a putter ho for old ones that is. The last couple of days I have been practicing with a 57 model Mac Ironmaster 6 with the original pistol grip. Actually I putt better with that thing than I do my Scotty. It is kinda funny old school putter with old school grip yet as far as my hands I am using a pencil grip with my right hand ----

I know exactly what you mean, STU. I absolutely love hitting a 2 wood. I've had several different models - typically I always go back to my Callaway Deuce. I haven't found the others to be substantially longer and typically not as easy to hit off the deck as the old warbird.

I haven't hit this original one off the deck on the course, but the couple times on the range it's been ok. I'd rather hit the hybrid honestly, or just lay up to a comfortable wedge yardage. I like "dual purpose" clubs. I have found the driver to be more of a "one trick pony". It's typically just tee it up, and let it fly. With the 2 wood I can hit it high, low, and cut or draw it much easier.

Right now, I am really liking the TM Original One. I may play a bit with its sleeve and see if I can dial in a ball flight - but its going to stay the primary driving club until the end of the season. The courses I play are all less than 7000y from the tips. I prefer to play courses that take driver out of peoples hands. I enjoy the "shot maker" type courses and that's where a good 2 wood shines!
