Here are some pics of my Tour Ping Redwood. It has the "starshot" finish which is a dull grey. Check out the floating face on teh sole and how they cut it into the lower back cavity. Enjoy.

To me it gives a softer feel at impact compared to the same putter without the floating face. One theory is the slot cut into the sole allows the face to "give" a little on impact. Another theory is the slot gives a different sound on impact. Thats why a floating face is also sometimes referred to as a "sound slot'.

Those who have done the research will claim that what we call "feel" on impact is more a function of what we hear at impact.

 

I just know I prefer the floating face on my putters.

Changes the sound and feel to a pretty big degree. "Livens up" the face, much louder report om impact. I like it a lot.

I took a couple practice putts with a Redwood Anser this weekend. Nice.

 

I also took a few putts with the new Anser 2 stainless with the plastic thingy in the cavity. Nice, but my handy lead tape would probably be required to cover-up the plastic. Just me...

 

I found the RW Anser and the Stainless Anser 2 to be similiar shapes/proportion. The RW The Stainless Anser and RW Anser ain't the same proportions as the name suggests. Isn't there enough confusion, marketing folks?

 

Will have to seek out this new RW slot floater. I always thought the TitAcuCameron "Inspired" by David Duval was a nice slot inspired version. Set's up nice to my eye. Good weight. Nice feel. In fact, I have one. And I actually prefer the more muted sound of the SC slot versus the tradional old school Ping Anser slotter. But, that's probably just me?

 

As a putter-a-holic, I look forward to seeing/test driving the "Tour RW" slotter show here--someday, somewhere.

 

Hopefully, not under lock and key, covered in plexiglass or behind the counter and cash register. In fact, I never would have picked up the SC Duval if that had been the case. Fyi..You'll now what I'm talking about if you've experienced this putting challenge at your local retailer.

The floating face gives a softer feeling with a lounder sound. And the starshot finish is just a darker grey finish which doesen't affect the feeling. Do I get it right?

It is the standard finish on their irons.

 

How does the cut in the face make that thing feel? It looks good just like all the other customs that have been popping up lately.

The 3x Black finish supposedly has durability issues when customizations are done but maybe released as an option in Feb of next year.

After seeing all the PingWRX photos and after finally having my own Redwood, I have decided to order my own soundslotted version of the Ping Redwood Anser. I can't wait to get it!

They can't do the starshot after the plating process, only before.
