2015 RSM Classic: Discussion thread

GolfWRX is live this week from the 2015 RSM Classic (formerly known as the McGladrey Classic), hosted by Davis Love III at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia. The tournament will be held on both the Seaside and Plantation 18-hole courses at the resort.

 

The field this week is set to include Zach Johnson, ranked No. 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Matt Kuchar (No. 17), Kevin Kisner (No. 25) Justin Thomas (No. 31) and last week's OHL Classic winner Graeme McDowell.

 

Also in the field is host Davis Love III and his son Dru Love III, aka Davis Love IV. Love IV is a member of the University of Alabama Golf Team, and he won the Puerto Rico Open this year, as well as the Georgia State Amateur Championship on the Seaside Course at Sea Island.

 

At last year's event, when it was still known as the McGladrey Classic, Robert Streb posted a final-round, 7-under par 63, and defeated Brendon de Jonge and Will MacKenzie is a playoff.

That's a lot of birdies. I like the look of the red/white alignment lines on the TM putters. I'm curious about how the face feels.

I'm sort of surprised that was the best idea the TM putter team could come up with. Those are a step backwards... like 20 years backwards.

Somewhat not surprised to see DLIII trying those PXG irons. Looking at the previously posted pics, those look a lot like Ping S55s at address, IIRC, which he had in the bag briefly too.

Great pictures as always btw. I can't believe its still hot and humid down there. Then again, it's in the high 60s here today.

I hope they're are more than what they look to be. But even as a TM putter collector, these are not what I expected. I like that they have a mallet with changeable weights in the bottom. But if it's a Proto, is it really going to be available retail. If that is the silver 80/20 insert, that's been around for a few years already. I like that insert, but would have thought it would have been updated. But what I see out of this is the same grip, the same head cover as a couple putter releases before it. Kind of like an afterthought.

Thanks, Ed. I enjoy the travel and it's not really hard work.

I'm hoping the sightlines are changeable or removable or something. Otherwise that red and white sightline is pretty horrendous.

Seriously. I get the benefit from the raised slight line or alignment aid concept, but I'd have thought that in this day and age, they'd have been able to make it look a lot better. Relative to these, Cleveland did a better job with the raised alignment in their recent line.

Is anyone else surprised at how many Callaway staffers are sticking with the older model irons - particularly the "MB1" (aka Tour Authentic Prototype/RAZR MB) and the 2013 X Forged? I get that they are fantastic irons, but you'd think the newer models would get more traction than they get. Based on tour usage, Cally might want to consider bringing them back in the stable.
