Putting arc aid or Putter shaft plane aid? Which is best?

I have a putting arc and i also have a make shift pvc shaft plane aid like this:

 

 

 

my question is which should I use through this winter to work on my stroke? which is best?

 

what do you guys use?

 

from my understandings the arc is good but only if it exactly fits you and your lie/plane and the odds of that are slim.

 

and its better to use an aid that focuses on the putter shaft plane? like the http://www.perfectstroke.org/catalogue/detail.php?id=3&product=PERFECTSTROKE%20PUTTING%20AID

 

is this correct? if so I need to find a way of making my DIY aid a lot sturdier as it moves all over the place currently.

Not sure I understand whether you are wanting to work on an 'arc' or 'straight back/straight through' method?

every stroke has a slight arc to it as it gets longer, unless there is severe manipulation, I want to work on a natural stroke that keeps the face square to the arc it travels.

my stroke doesn't have much arc in it as I set up with eyes over the ball and hands fairly underneath the shoulders.

the putter still arcs using a shaft plane aid, only something like the dream 54 aid forces it not too.

TIBA Putt works wonders for my stroke. Easy to take to and from the course and can use indoors or outdoors.

try the Learning Curve from EyeLine Golf, especially if you can get the Stan Utley dvd included.

They are the same. The putting arc is based on a plane angle of 71* iirc. But both are doing the exact same thing. Shaft moving on the "straight line" creates an arc at the clubhead. Shaft plane allows the arc to work for lie angles other than 71

ah I see, so with a putter lie angle of 70 I may be best using a 'straight' aid for the shaft to swing along?

what aids do you recommend/use for putting work Dan?

I work on speed control and starting ball on line. Rarely work on path.

Personally, trying to go straight back and forth has never worked for me. I did have a putting lesson with the chalk line way back when. Seems too manipulative. I like to really make sure the clubface is lined up properly at setup, then let the head arc inside naturally and focus on speed. This has helped my feel enormously.

i think the arc is the winner for me, had been struggling with hitting putts high on the face, and using the arc for half an hour last night maybe me realise I was hooding the club going back and then rising up through the ball in an attempt to keep the left wrist flat.

don't think I miss hit a single putt on or after using the arc. and I think only 2 or 3 fell off the metal rail so good face control!
