Recommended Posts

Since I'm officially a free agent club HO again, I thought I'd start a WITB thread.

In my gamer bag today 12/21/15:

6-P Srixon Z745 w DGSL S300

52* Taylor Made TP EF ATV Grind w Scandium Wedge Prototype

How do you like the UDIs? I'm looking at trying a 3 UDI, but then noticed they have the 4 and the 5 also. I'm just settling into my PSI and they are very easy to hit. I was going to just order a 3 PSI

I really like the UDIs. They are really easy to hit and I do not mind the way they look at address. They are a little chunky but very much in proportion if that makes sense. I am much more comfortable hitting the UDI than a normal long iron, hybrid or high lofted fairway wood. I wish they had a little less offset but there are few clubs I don't say that about. I started with the 3 and then added the 4 and 5. I'm seriously considering leaving them in the bag even if I bag the T-MB. They have a little less offset especially in the 3 and 4 iron and I like the way they look at address better. I'll take the T-MB on the course but I'd expect the UDI to stay in the bag regardless especially the 3 and 4. They go high and land soft which is something I have a hard time doing typically with long irons.

I haven't had a problem off tight lies. The sole width is wide and cambered enough to keep it from digging despite the low bounce.
I can also hit them low into the wind. Much more playable for me than a normal long iron which I can only hit low.

Took the T-MB out today instead of the 745. They are quite good. Hit 13 greens with 3 holes basically unreachable for me dead into the wind. I didn't feel like I swung it that well. Feel and look don't measure up to the Srixons but they are getting a serious look based on playability alone. I'm not really used to playing with forgiving irons.

Got the new Big Bertha Alpha fwy woods I was waiting for. 2 rounds in, I like them but am a little surprised how low I hit them. Small sample size but something to note.

Also T-MB in the bag for the foreseeable future. I just hit more greens with them than the 745 pure and simple. They don't look or feel quite as good but for now performance is king.
How's the 816 gear... Pros and cons?!?!
I'm just getting used to the fairway woods. I can say for sure that they are very long. The 5 wood goes as long as my old Anser 3 wood and the 3 wood goes 15 to 20y further off the deck. I am still playing with the settings but have the hosel set at +2/N and the weight forward and it hits high bombs. I seem to hit them more consistent with the weight forward and I like the higher loft settings to get the right trajectory. Feel is great and I love the clean look from the top. Shape is good but not perfect. It is a little long from heel to toe for my eye but I'm starting to get used to it.

The driver is on another level. I have nothing bad at all to say about it. I have the weight set low toe (which is where my typical miss is) and I am hitting it longer than anything else I have played recently and I am hitting more fairways. Looks great to my traditional eye (I could nit pick the shape but for 2015/16 it's as good as its going to get). It's definitely low spin but seems to be more consistently low spin than other drivers I've tried. Mishits are low spin too and I get very high ball speed on mis hits out on the toe. For me it just finds the fairway. I honestly can't say enough good things about this driver. I'm as big a driver HO as there is but I can't see changing out this driver for quite a while.

The UDI is a great little club. It's long and forgiving and has a nice trajectory for a long iron replacement. I'm still comparing against the T-MB but so far I think the UDI is a little easier to hit maybe but the T-MB is a little more accurate.

So you have the 14 BB Alpha fw set to +2. Are you going to try the 16 degree model at neutral loft? Not sure what the real difference would be, but it seems you would have more flexibility that way.

I do not think I will. I like the way the club sets up right now and if anything I'd want to set it up to hit it lower for windy links golf which I still have the opportunity to do. Right now it's setup for softer more parkland conditions for max carry.
