I'm looking forward to trying them. The Pinnacle Gold has evolved into a really nice ball over the years. They are certainly not the rocks they used to be. The Pinnacle Exception was a nice ball years ago and it seems the Pinnacle Gold has taken the place of it. I will be trying both the Rush and the Soft.

If just plain bill converts then we will know the new Pinnacle balls are for real.

Heh heh...yesterday I hit 130 balls, trying to figure out why I suck...apparently I just suck...girl and her parents show up, and she proceeds to make that sound you hear on tv; a crisp, solid thwack I dont often experience, and it furthered my humiliation...turns out she plays college golf in Arkansas...if only I was younger...

I think I did figure out a few things...went inside and looked for a ping gap wedge (gsmith) and Jason, my salesman, comes up and we're chatting, and I mentioned my $250 clev/srixon coupon and I don't need clubs but I might get a bunch of balls, so he gets me sleeves of srixon soft, xv, and something else...then he says check this out...prov1x with higher numbers, and I like 6 cuz I wanna get my hcap there, so I grab a sleeve...gonna experiment today at bluebonnet...the x is the only ball as long as pinn gold in my vast experience...and that titleist script looks awesome...we'll see how things shake out...if I get srixon I'll slowly give them to a buddy...but if the x beats pinn, I gotta stop hitting Starbucks and start saving every dime!

We have a winner! Lol...

Went off by myself at bluebonnet...used 3 different drivers in rotation with 5 different balls, and it was immediately evident which ball was longest off the tee, longest from the fairway, and certainly decent chipping and putting...quickly eliminated srixon soft and z star after 3 holes, although I hit them again later to confirm what I was seeing...the z star xv was impressive all around...it goes pretty good...prov1x was interesting; felt very firm; firmer than pinn gold, if you can believe that...in fact, I was startled how rocklike it felt...no joke...and it putted identically to pg...

Buuuuuuut.........one ball stood out as being best for my alleged game...pinn gold was straighter, and most of the time it was 20yds longer off the tee, measured with gps...pg just feels like it explodes, or leaps, or is shot out of a cannon or something, in comparison to the other balls...even when I hit a, ahem, power fade while experimenting with face alignment, it was the longest, with x coming in 2nd... I kept score with pg, which I hit first, and managed to birdie 7, 9, 16... Shot 80 when i overcooked my tee shot on 17 which lead to a dbl, and bogied 18 with a lip out...

If pg didn't exist, I'd be looking for something close, but z star xv was a nice ball...wouldn't play the x again...

Also, I noticed yesterday at the range that a sneaky bit of sway had crept into my takeaway, which I corrected today, which lead to a lot of good ball striking...really firmed up the right leg, which eliminated a variable, and boy was I making good contact, finally...

So, now what do I do with that $250 cle/srixon coupon??? Lol...

Thank goodness! We were afraid we were going to lose you.

How about put that coupon for sale on eBay? Or maybe even on here pm WRX...BST forum.

Pg is an amazing ball. Period. I think I'll put the Cleveland 64* back in the bag for tight pins and even less rollout...

Also, I choked way down to the end of the grip on the ping 31* hybrid and could hit it 130; full swing under control is around 160...I could just pull the 6...and the 7! And carry 4 drivers...seriously...depending on the hole and what's working, lol...12* had it going today...

^I can't tell if he's serious or not.... lol

But jeez, don't tell me the Pinnacles are any good. I've been trying to get my old man to stop playing them for two years.

They're a budget ball? Comparable to a mid level ball? Premium?

Seems like the days of the "rock" are about done. Unless you really look.

You haven't seen me play. Had 4 drivers in the bag yesterday! The 16 has a specific use, like a super tight fairway or long par 3, and will always be in the bag...the 12 is my favorite loft...had two 10.5's I was messing with trying to make up my mind...

That 31 hybrid really covers about 4 clubs, believe it or not...I hit about 50 balls getting it dialed in, and it worked yesterday! Twice put it on the green on 130yd par threes, which surprised the heck outa me...gets the ball up and accurate for me...already pulled the 6 iron out of the bag, and will probably pull the 7 and go with either 4 drivers or put the 27 hybrid back in the bag...the 31 works every time. Every time. So I'll probably stick with it. Sometimes I mess up the 27...then I get irritated and think bad thoughts...

Orange doesn't seem to be a color easily seen. Same with green. I've seen about 6 colors being used and they are just too dark for me to easily spot...bright yellow seems to be best for me...

Agreed, blue SuperSoft balls were a bad idea

Lol I agree tried that supersoft variety pack. Bad idea blue ball , played with my brother in law and every shot I hit the ball instantly dissapeared as soon as I hit it. That quickly ended as I put it back in the bag I favor of a yellow ball .

  • 2 weeks later...

I did use my coupon and got three dozen srixons and a smart sole wedge for my buddy who is playing lousy clubs and needs to get things going around the greens...I didn't need anything from cle/srixon..plus the shopping site has jacked up prices...figure I oughta get a coupla free rounds outa that deal! And I just ordered a ping g20 lob to complete my bag, finally....ok, maybe im looking at a 3i....

I must admit, I am really sold on the gold! And ping irons! And that rapture! Ping makes some good stuff!
