Too Shallow = No spin Monte Help

I'd still say -1.1 is way too shallow with a 6 iron and is why you tend to hit it fat. At that angle of attack the bounce will often hit before the leading edge moving low point behind the ball. Not to mention when you get to longer clubs low point won't be far enough forward resulting in dropkicks and fat shots

To me it has nothing to do with the low spin number. It's about making solid contact with low point far enough in front of the ball.

Maybe it's as simple as a "bump"? It would be nice to not have two intents or swing thoughts though, as things can spin out of control quick, no pun intended

Ok.....Here is the video as promised. I spent roughly 3 hours with a club fitter on a flight scope here in Cincy. To make this brief, I was politely escorted out and referred to my pro. He basically said my problems are due to AoA and I am way too shallow as my spin all day never reached above 4000rpms. It was the same song and dance. But today, most of my shots were hovering in the 2k range with my 6 iron and anywhere from a slightly positve AoA (below 1 to a -1). My best shot was 5k spin and -2 AoA. Felt great. Here is one of my swings

I apologize for resurrecting this one but I randomly started having a very similar issue and figured I might as well reply here. I've been hitting balls indoors for the last 3-4 months and have had very "typical" AoA numbers...4-5 degrees down on most irons. However, for some reason unbeknownst to me, over the last week or so my AoA has completely changed. And changed to the point that my 7i AoA was more often in the 0-2 degree down range and it felt like it was nearly impossible for me to get close to 3 or 4 degrees down. I've confirmed the numbers on several GCQuad's and even with different clubs.
My club path has gotten in the 5-8 degrees in-out range which probably isn't helping me any. The crazy thing is that I'm really not blading or chunking anything. The contact isn't awful and the spin rates are completely fine. The launch is a little high, but I've always hit it higher and struggled to flight my irons.
I think I have slightly corrected it by trying to take a shorter backswing and hit low fades (at least in my head...they are "low" and "fades"). Once I started doing that I was getting 4-5 degree downward numbers and my club path was getting into the 0-2 degree in-out range. The obvious problem with that is that I'm not consistently generating the same distance due to the relatively abbreviated swing.
My numbers today (before I started shortening my swing) were generally the following with a 35 degree 7 iron...
21.5* Launch
6800 backspin
Some swing videos are below. Any thoughts/comments or suggestions are appreciated. Not sure what the hell I started doing but I'd like to stop. Thanks!

stance pretty narrow, arms need to relax more, ball off your right eye - too far back for a 7i. As noted you move your upper body, head, too much to the right and have way too long of an arm swing.

shaft goes back and gets flat, lift to get arms too far, then steep shaft on downswing. Left hip working too much around (supporting you getting way over to the right) - left hip goes down with knee going out toward toes - it doesn't really rotate much to the right - right hip goes up and back.

downswing slide of the hips, arms trailing, stall and flip. Your arms have no chance to catch up to the rest of your pivot. explains path going out to the right.

Don't know your intent but if it is to get really loaded into the right side (or get your left shoulder over your right foot) , then you have way over done it - as you turn and add left side bend, the chest starts to extend so that it is pointing level or slightly up by the end of the backswing - lack of this extension can cause the upper body to move to the trail side - even by left arm parallel your head has moved significantly - pressure moves not mass.

Take some lessons.

Thanks. I definitely noticed the head movement as soon as I watched the face on video. Crazy sway. I made some more progress today just hitting what I currently feel like are "punch" shots. Basically just an abbreviated backswing in my mind. Got those AoA numbers back to negative 3-4. Just need to keep hitting those lower, shorter backswing shots and then build in the same speed.

Just keep recording yourself and watching. You stated in your first post that you are taking shorter swings. But if you look at the videos you are at parallel. I think what feels like a shortened swing to you, is not actually a shortened swing.

I'm guessing here. So please take with a grain of salt. But judging by your comments and the video. I think you feel like you are taking a "short swing" because you feel like you can keep rotating your upper body more. That's not necessarily a bad thing. However - if you keep turning your upper body more, you'll notice either (A) sway will return - you create more space to turn by moving away from target or (B) you'll over turn and get across the line at the top.

That brings me to the conclusion that your not really using your lower body very well. A solid lower body, helps prevent the sway. It also creates more power which will in turn could get your speeds up (since that seems to be your main concern). But if I were you and some of the stuff above "sounds familiar to what you feel". Then I would start researching how to use the lower body correctly. And just to be clear, I'm not talking about your hips. I don't think you feel your glutes, abs, core, etc engaging near the top of the backswing and on. And that's a huge missing link if that's the case.

There's a ton of stuff that goes into proper lower body and using the ground. Starting with correct posture. Way too much to try to post on a forum. But that's the direction I would start researching if I were you and the above comments are similar to what you feel. Good luck with the grind.

Thanks! Yeah those two videos are of my "longer" normal swing that I've just developed over the last few weeks. I figured I'd post those since they show what I'm struggling with. I don't have video of it, but I've been trying to get back on track by taking shorter back swings and hitting lower flighted shots...especially low fades. You are definitely correct that a shortened swing for me isn't really all that short in reality. I've always had a tendency to get long with the back swing. I'm sure the lower body and core aren't really engaging the way they should be either haha. The sad thing is that I can float along as a relatively low handicap with these issues and never truly rid myself of them. What a dumb game.

All depends on what your trying to do. I got down to 1 with many flaws. But I couldn't get beyond that without addressing the flaws. That's why I started learning more and trying to make changes. It's a tough road to get below scratch. At least for me it certainly was.

Anyway, hope you get to where you want to be. Good luck.

Slow down. That tempo is faster than blast beat metal.

I'd work on the hip rotation. Left hip goes forward and right hip kind of stays in place, then you rotate right hip around where the left hip went forward. So in the backswing you get closer to the ball, then in the downswing you get even closer.

You can try keeping your left hip in place, rotate right hip back and toward target while letting the left hip go down but kind of resist its desire to move toward the ball. Then downswing a little shift and then move left hip behind.
