So he's playing a 5-wood and the 18-degree Crossover? Admittedly I haven't tried the Crossover yet, but just assumed if you had a 5-wood you would slot in the 21-degree Crossover after that.

The Crossover can be adjusted for loft and lie angles so he could be playing them in slightly weaker loft. Not to mention even if the lofts were not adjusted at 18, the length of the #3 Crossover would be much shorter than the 5 wood.

I think they are both ES heads. The second group of pictures may just be a bit of a worn down version due to a lot of use. Less visible "scoop" or just not reflecting as much in the picture.

I've hit them and love them. I found them fairly short compared to a driving iron, as someone above mentioned probably due to the shaft length. I certainly did not hit the 18 degree Ping Crossover as far as I did my 18 degree Mizuno Fli-Hi. Probably 210 vs 220 yards carry. But moreso the Crossover comes in higher and softer, and the Fli Hi is hot.

 

So don't view the Crossover as a driving iron. It is a long iron replacement. I think the average/shorter hitters on Tour may be interested, but not the bombers. So guys like Hunter. I assume he's testing shafts to see which gets him the right trajectory.

 

If I do get one it will replace my 3 iron since the Crossover is more forgiving. Which means I'll end up with a 17 degree hybrid, 18 degree Crossover, and a 24 degree 4 iron. From a loft perspective it make no sense. But from a distance perspective, it's 222, 210, 198.

 

I wish they would make a Crossover at 16 degrees. I'd love to totally bench my hybrid because I can't stand the damn thing despite it being in my bag for 6 years.
