Just my 2 cents worth, but I tried all the Tour Preferred and they just didn't click with me. Love blades, but the MB's were consistently 10 yards shorter for me and didn't feel great. Tried the other 2 sets and they just didn't do it for me. Plus, that pricing in increments thing was yet another deterrent. Bought a set of MP-4's from the demo rack for $650 instead with NO MARKS on them... I guess they scare people. :)

The Apex MB's you can order shorter in 1/4 inch increments if you want that shorter feel. You can probably ask them to reach a swing weight but not sure they will get there from what others have said. I am sure if you talk with the right person at a shop you can request everything to your specifications... or use one of those "clubfitting/clubmaking" companies like Cool Clubs and have them built to your desired specifications at a cost.

If I remember correctly there isn't a Roger Dunn golf shop out there, but if you are lucky and someone there has a full set of Apex MB's to hit, given them a swing through the set. I would suggest getting a heavier shaft or adding weight to the head especially in the longer irons. That 3 and 4 iron feel a lot like swinging the shaft with nothing attached ... after that everything feels good. If you like that light feel, then you will be good to go. I couldn't feel the head at all, but I am picky to the point of probably annoying fitters. :)

The other, more expensive option, would be to look at getting the UT's for 3 and 4 iron if you like their feel better.

Thanks for your reference as you have the Apex MBs now, lucky dawg.
I don't play 3iron anymore, it's always a 21 degree hybrid and I can go 50/50 on the next slot of 4iron or 25 hybrid, depends on course.

I likely would not be into the UT line - just from pics looks like I could not hit it. I had a Mizuno driving iron a few years back with a heavy stiff graphite shaft that I gave up on. Usually could hit line drive 200 yds, but was never pleased on the landings!

Being older, I like some graphite shafts around, mostly my range days where my MP 69 with the Recoils 110 are best suited. That's why I doubt I would go heavier shafts in an Apex MB to get past the stock D1 SW, I am pretty used to 110-115g shafts as my current Razr MBs are just flighted PX 5.0 (that's around 113g ea.).

My sets are not too worn down yet, just wanted to check out the initial field results from helpful WRXers out there to see if I should even consider the TM MBs or not, now am leaning as more unlikely.

The Callaway UT are actually really easy to hit. Frighteningly easy for as scary as they look for most people who don't play long irons well if at all. I got a chance to hit them at a Roger Dunn's (Santa Ana Superstore) with the Callaway guys present (they still are there on weekends). I am not a huge fan of the Recoil they put in it from the simple fact that they didn't have an X (F5) to swing and the F4 just isn't a good fit for me in that iron. They agreed after the first couple shots that the last thing I need is help getting the launch up.

If you get a chance, give it a swing for reference, but I found that the Tour-V works well. However, I am really borderline between the stiff and X-flex shafts. Personally, I would probably look to the X-flex, but I would really talk with them again before pulling the trigger. I might even look at sucking up the uncharge for a Steelfiber to match my irons... but would like to try the i125cw instead of the i110cw like I have in my irons to add a little more weight and stiffness without going x-flex.

EDIT: I was looking 18 degree to replace my 3hybrid, but if the yardage I am seeing on the 3 iron occasionally becomes the norm, I will pass and put the 60 degree wedge back in the bag.

I like where you are headed here. I would (and already have... Shhh) matched the set with the same shafts. I also went with the Callaway UT to replace my 3 and 4 in the Apex mb set. Those UT's are so long and straight.

He guys I've been going back and forth trying to decide on the apex mb and the mp 4s. So with that said would you go mp 4 with only being able to get the ctaper, tour, or DG shafts. Or apex mb, still a good forged iron, with the option to get modus 3, recoil, tour v shafts and quite a few other options

Titleist 915 D3 8.5* W/ Fujikura Speeder Pro74, set at A1
Titleist 915 FD 15* W/ Diamana 70 Whiteboard, set A1
Mizuno MP4 3-P W/ Nippon Modus3 130X
Mizuno T5 50*, 54*, 58* 50 & 54 with Modus 130x and 58 with Modus wedge 125x

I currently play your choices of irons, minus one generation. My Razr MBs are more the gamer set, while the MP-69s are more the range set as I put in Recoils 110.

I personally like the shaft options you listed for Apex MBs much the better. Well into Champions Tour eligibility, I am lately seeking the shaft of least bodily harm for my irons - Recoils, and from following the Nippon thread, Modus, will be in my next set as well.

Back into choosing a Callaway vs. a Mizuno recent forged MB. Callaway certainly rivals the steel feel here. I have read many threads on various MBs over the last few seasons, and my feeling is the MP-4 is a consensus winner in that line - as good as they have ever made. While the Apex MB has had some doubters, but still pretty good. My wishy washy opine then kinda evens it out..... but if you have no health of elbow or shoulder issues, I would pick MP-4 of these two.

Personally, I will be rotating into my above clubs either a set of Cobra Fly-Zs in full MB or the Nike Vapor Pros. It will come down to shaft choice - If Cobra adds more than $100 to go Recoil, I go VPs in Modus.

if anyone is curious about the offset measurements for the Apex MB, here they are direct from Callaway (3-PW):

0.121 0.111 0.106 0.096 0.091 0.086 0.081 0.076

I wonder how these offsets compare to the RAZR MB's. Anyone know?

I sure wish someone would answer this. I'm torn between a used set of Apex MBs and a used set of Razr X MBs. The latter is less expensive.
