Yamaha irons

That's one of the great things about living in Australia. Potentially you can play golf 365 days a year. Yea baby!!

I always wanted to visit Australia as a young man, but never did. My sister moved to Sydney and married an Aussie. I can remember phoning there on christmas day when it was -35 C here and plus 35 C there, and wishing i had moved there. I do remember them moving north of Sydney and having a 2 hr each way commute, housing was expensive and day to day bills seemed high. I joked that with her nursing and his banking job that they could move home and live like kings. They said no way to cold, well a few yrs later they are living here and doing well. The golf 365 sounds pretty good vs our 165 golfing days. Damn i should have moved. lol

Yes Sydney is expensive. Highest house prices in the country. There are a lot of places cheaper to live and lots of courses too. Traditionally we have clubs with established memberships in all areas and cost wise you can be a member of a pretty good course for a reasonable amount. It is not an elitist sport here.

We therefore play in a lot of club comps, under R&A rules and our rounds are logged for handicapping by a national body. It's a good system and we play competitive golf by the rule book in a monitored pace of play. So it is not just the weather. We have great courses and a club system with uniform handicapping that is great for becoming an established club player.

Sounds like a very golf friendly country. Obviously you have taken advantage of the fine weather and system to get your handicap at a level not duplicated by the masses. Iv'e taken a liking to the Tams but will hold off on the Vegemite.

Magpies - try to source a set of the 2010 or 2011 v-forged, tour or non tour. The 2012 look great but I've never tried them.....yet.

Awesome clubs and probably still my favourite JDM manufacturer.

Nice. I remember an old man at my club had a full set of graphite Diawa irons back in the mid 80's. They were so expensive. Way more expensive than current value PXG's. They felt so soft. Just like butter.

Maybe? I'd love a set. I'd like to see the original "Hal Sutton" model he was playing back in the day.

That would be the SX-25. There's a single 5-iron and single 8-iron on eBay right now for ~ $20 if you want to stroll down memory lane...

I still have an almost mint set of Yamaha SX-25's. The original edition before they put Hal Sutton's name on them.

How much? I'm really sold on Hal's name...

Not selling. I searched for years for a like new set after owning a few somewhat beat up sets of the SX25's. Did you know Fourteen Golf actually designed the SX25's?

Didn't know that but totally believe it. Thanks for sharing. I wonder how much Hal Sutton worked with Yamaha or vice versa? Back in the day when he was the man.

I actually just scored a set of Hal Sutton Grind SX-25s at my local Goodwill yesterday. Pretty clean aside from some bag chatter and surface rust I was able to wipe off. Overpaid for them, but my god are they gorgeous.

Does anyone know the loft specs on these? I know their contemporaries in the late 80s were usually around a 22* or 23* 3 iron and a 48* PW, but I'd love to know for sure!

I played Pings, Wilsons, Mizunos... And all of the sudden, a set of Yamahas SX-25 come to my life. Dang, this set is just spectacular. The feel, the sound, are they really 25 years old? Oh well, they are now in my #1 bag. For the win.

I heard rumors that they were forged by Miura but haven’t been able to confirm it. Also, did anybody find out the original specs? Lofts? Much appreciated!

reshafted the set with NS dps( modus 120 protos). only hit the 6 and 7 on course last week so far but it seems like the new shaft has REALLY brought the set to life, they felt great, and went !!!!

The shafts added a few yards over the original DG things. VERY finicky to reshaft due to the pin in the hosel that needs to be removed and swing weight issues, I had to build them 1/2 inich over my standard to accomodate the weight issues. but I simply choke down a smidge and its ok.

u can get pretty funky with these they go all over the places if u so choose, very unlike modern design, extra long, thin , really thin topline and semi thick sole, these tell u when u have missed the centre, which I like.

might take these to the links and play a few rounds with em to really test their mettle.

impact from centre is as good any thing ive got bagged these days . and they simply look freeeeeeekign good in my bag.

proves once again everything (new) that glitters aint necessarily more golden!

might grab another set of 2010 tour models sans the Pw.. Yamaha PW really fkk irks me , its a square.edge shovel . hate it... rest of the set is fine, JDM have always had a PW conundrum.

I bought a cpl of yururi 46* 2010 raw heads, had one reset to48* and I play that with a lot of my sets to offset the offset issues I have with the PWedges.

yammhy 2008-2011 are THE NUTS.. those ones are ENDO forged, try em , they are cheap as these days!!

owari !
