Callaway Apex MB '16?

Recommended Posts

Might just be me but I thought the Apex MBs felt a bit on the lighter side and required a decent bit of lead tape. Anyone else feel the same?

That was a major complaint with them. I had a guy at a demo day for Callaway here tell me how great they were, best feeling Callaway ever, and I told him he never hit the protos or razrs obviously, then I watched his swing. ... it wouldn't have mattered.

I went from X Proto's to MB1 to Apex MB's & see absolutely no difference between the 3 other than different stamping. As long as their built the same I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference, if there's any complaints I have it's the 8/9 irons are cutting the snot out of balls.

The differences between the Apex MB and Mb1's are night and day. The grooves are the old ones from the Proto's which create a totally different reaction from the ball. Same exact build and you can tell from hitting 2-3 balls.

Could be, mine were built to a D5 sw, not sure how much weight they had to add to get it there

Common issue that a lot of guys complained about. I believe the stock swing weight was D1 which is ridiculous for a forged blade.

Agree, they felt on the lighter side to me too. And yep, they are D1. So I'm thinking about ordering D2...

Hi All,

has anyone heard please any news about Apex MB '16?

The Apex CF 16, Apex Pro 16 are out on the market, but I haven't heard anything about replacement of MBs from 2014 yet... And now, they are not even listed at Callaway site - unless you search specifically for them.

Not many pros are playing w/ MBs, but on contrary, the reviews from "ordinary golfers" were very favorable. So any insights as to the launch date, new enhancements would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Lukas

Most of the tour players who play Callaway and play blades use the MB1. They made such a great design with the original xprototypes there was no reason to change.

Now they just need to make them available to the public!

I hope to be getting my second set of MB1's next month. I love them. They will be my 4th set in a row. I went from x proto to muscle back to MB1. I hit a tour version of the Apex MB last year, and while they were quite solid, they weren't the MB1.

Thanks for the insights! Out of curiosity, what would be the difference between tour version and regular version of Apex MBs?

Welcome to the site! You will quickly learn that there is nothing "ordinary" about the typical WRXer. A 325 yard carry with the driver is considered "ordinary" here and if you don't play blades your not a real golfer. :)

Thanks :-)

Apex MB wont be updated until next year.. or so my rep tells me.

Thanks a lot for sharing, much appreciated!

I have a set of the protos and to me the newer forgings vs the old have a different feel to me. I always felt like the protos had the buttery softness few irons I have had could match. The newer MB's just dont quite feel the same. Dunno what it is but something is not exact. Dont get me wrong they all feel great but the original protos quite possibly could be my fav iron of all time and Ive hit a lot!

The MB1 are as soft if not softer than the xprotos. I had the xprotos with v grooves and they were buttery.

The grooves are different for tour and retail.

Not many golfers can tell the difference between D1 and D2, or D3 and D4 for that matter. - we're talking a 2 grams difference in weight.

I think you mean 2 grams. 2 ounces would end up being 28.5 swing weight points different (57 grams).

  • 1 month later...

You're right Hot Rod 71, I'd not probably notice 2 g difference. I just placed the order over the weekend and since these will be +1" longer, on 125g shaft and with mid-size grip, they estimate like D3/D4 swing weight in Callaway. So l'm curious by myself to see what the final one will be and if I notice any change over my current clubs. Thanks everyone for the insights and I'll share how they feel later once I test them a bit.

I'll second this start a program similar to titleist's MOTO I would love a set of mb1 or replacement xforged 13 and maybe that sub-zero driver. Come on callaway you could market the hell out of this and we (die hard fans) could get what we want.
