Hooked this rainbow this morning (had a couple hours to kill). Pretty cold out, and the river was running a bit too high, but managed to get this one on a orange trout worm.

Anyone done any bass fishing in Texas ?

im from Texas and grew up fishing for bass. We fished lake houston, lake conroe, Sam Rayburn, toledo bend, trinity river, and we had 2 stock ponds on our 200 acres in Columbus. When I was about 12, he sold the bass boat and bought a bay boat, and we transitioned into mostly bay fishing in and around trinity bay. He ran into some financial trouble in 2000 and had to sell the boat, and I'm not a fan of fishing from land, so I quit.

One of my golf buddies lives on the bay, and 2 years ago I went fishing with him on his pier after a round one day and got hooked again. For a few months we were fishing in the morning and golf in the afternoon. Then I bought a kayak (Wilderness Ride 135 SOT). After a year of fishing from the kayak, I sold my truck and bought a mustang, so now I have nowhere to transport my gear or yak, which is collecting dust in my mothers garage (have nowhere to put it at my apartment and since I left my house, I'm not leaving it there for the ex to destroy or sell).

Hogan that rainbow is gorgeous

Thanks! Pretty fat fish. Heck of a fight on 4lb mono. The red on the side of the head was pretty cool.

You got that bow in Jersey? Have they started stocking already, or is that a holdover?

Yes. I have a river a couple minutes from my house that gets stocked. This one's a holdover. We had a rough couple of years here. They had a disease last year and had to kill off a whole mess of stockers. I think they had a lower number of stockers this year as well.

Hmmm, got me guessing. Flatbrook, Pecquannock, Musconetcong, or upper S branch Saddle river?

Musconetcong

I knew it had to be a big stream with good flow and deep holes for a holdover.Nice fish. After they make it through their first winter they become more like wild trout, just bigger!

Hey, hogan didn't give away any secrets! The Garden State's trout waters are all so well known just mentioning a stream is no biggie.

Now, I have to find out what hole he was fishing...

Here's a 17" largemouth that was caught on an inline spinner. Here's the fun part: 5'6" ultralight rod and a tiny 1000 reel, 2lb mono mainline with a 4lb fluorocarbon leader.

Eating wise they are supposedly nice. I have never caught one in the slot limit. You can only keep them in this state if they fall between 14-27" or somewhere around there. All mine have been above 30". Reason for the slot limit is due people loving so much in the 80s and 90s that they almost went bye bye so I guess ya they are pretty good haha.

I have eaten all kinds of fish. I started fishing long before I have any memory of it. So far, redfish is my favorite table fare as far as any fish goes. Done right, it is hard to beat!

And I would love a 14"-27" slot! The 14"-18" are supposed to be the best for eating. In Texas, ours is 20"-28", and we can only keep 3 per day, with 1 per year (must be tagged) over the 28" limit. Actually 2 overlimit per year if you go through the proper channel and get a replacement tag after you use your first tag. The 1 over limit can be kept in addition to your 3 per day bag limit.

Ha ha and I thought our slot was small :-). We are allowed to keep two per day

Forever Changing at this point.......

There is nothing like an a English summer morning when it's warm and still. Setting up your tackle as dawn breaks and you can see the needle bubbles of the Tench feeding breaking on the surface. Catching fish after fish until the sunlight slows the bites and warms your back.

Leave for home and shower mid morning. Then a golf competition in the afternoon followed by a nice meal and red wine with the Mrs. The perfect day. For me.

Count me in as well. Although, I would like to go for some native browns on the River Test, followed by a glass of Highland single malt, followed by a nice rabbit stew with some claret.

Nice Largemouths!

The one in Idaho was a lot bigger than the other. It was pregnant and swallowed the jiggy head so deep I couldn't get it out. Ended up killing it and gave it to some people on the dock. They sliced her up and had it for dinner.

Whatever driver happens to be working at the time
Some random 3 wood
My same, old irons
A few wedges...
