Anyone buying the Arccos Golf Tracking System

Interesting email from Arccos after playing this morning. We are in the off season (scores don't count for handicap) here in New England. This coupled with lots of leaves and pine needles on our greens, results in my group of golfing buddies being pretty liberal with gimmies. After adjusting my putts in Arccos after today's round to account for 7-8 gimmies, I got an email from Arccos letting me know the Arccos server had detected an abnormal number of added putts and reminding me of the proper procedures for using Arccos on the putting green. They also provided me with their customer service number and encouraged me to give them a call if I felt I was having any technical issues. That is some great proactive customer service from Arccos. Needless to say, I am becoming more impressed with the system the more I use it.
[/quote]

If I run into a gimmie situation, or playing alone I have a tap in, I just knock the ball away with the putter before picking it up. It is then recorded as a made putt.

FYI, re disabling Arccos during practice:

I'm interested in buying the Arccos setup, but I'm concerned that the batteries won't last long because I practice quite a bit on the range. So I e-mailed Arccos asking if it was possible to disable the sensors during practice range usage, without having to re-pair the clubs when the sensors are enabled again.

Got a very quick reply stating that they used to have that capability, but users kept forgetting to wake the sensors from deep sleep, so that option isn't available now. Their suggested solution was to unscrew the sensors from each club while practicing, then reinstall before playing; also use a Sharpie to write the club # on the bottom of each sensor to prevent mixups!

That is a shame as that is something that I would be interested in as well. I get the feeling that I will run through the batteries very quickly due to range time.

I would have thought that they could wake the sensors automatically by pinging them when you press the "Start Round" button in the App and automatically have them sleep when you end the round.

I used mine on the range 2 or more times a week last year and had no battery issues. But removing them from the club does sound like a good idea.

I have been thinking about this as well. Arccos believes that their batteries should last for 50+ rounds throughout your bag. That assumes that some clubs (Driver, putter...) will get more "wake up" time than others like say a 4 iron. And since I am a bit of a range rat and I play more than 50 rounds a year I may simply replace the batteries across my bag after the 4th of July. It is kind of like my wife and I replacing all the smoke detector batteries on our house on New Years Day rather than wait for one of them to die and start beeping at 2 AM. When you think about it, if you noticed your driver or putter wasn't registering, you could live with one screwed up stat round and simply replace the batteries at that point. Not perfect but I can work around this issue.

I had the Arccos system and it worked great for 5 rounds. After that I was replacing batteries weekly and I only play twice a week. I had full sets of sensors replaced 3 times before I finally gave up. I will say their customer service is top notch and very responsive but between the battery issue which can get expensive and occasional glitch it one time registered I hit my 3 wood 3252 yards. I really wanted to like this system but it became distracting to me . The info when it worked was great. If anyone has any additional questions let me know.

The sensors are not fool-proof, and battery issues can occur. I've had mine for over a year now, and began having problems with 2 sensors. They replaced the entire set rather than have me frustrated with a here and there fix. Agree with earlier poster that customer service is top notch.

If I have any gripe it would be that they continue to limited to Apple Maps, where my home course opened a new 9 (finally 18 holes) in May, but Apple Maps will not update the map despite a relentless barrage of request. Google Maps has been updated since June. Supposedly Arccos will begin using Google Maps at the next update. I'm hopeful that will be the case. I haven't logged a round on my home course using Arccos since May.

I've used mine for about five rounds and, so far, am happy with the purchase. I got the sensors from Amazon warehouse deal (slightly damaged packaging) for less than $200 and have had no issues. I like that I can edit strokes on the fly. Really, you only have add in penalties. We'll see how it goes in a few more months when I'm able to play more.

I love my arccos, but I love my pure grips more. I think I am going to stop using the arccos for a while, maybe even sell them off. Ever since I switched from DriTec to Pure grips, the sensors come loose on every swing, sometimes popping completely out of the club. It didnt bother me at first, but having to do that as part of my pre and post shot routine, has become bothersome. I also tend to think about them when swinging, and I feel that has messed with some of my game. I have thought about using a piece of two-sided tape to keep it secure, but i dont know if I want to mess with them that much.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

Is the hole at the end of the PURE grips larger than a standard grip? You could even use some teflon tape to build up on the arccos to fit tighter...might be easier than cutting tiny strips of two sided tape.

I have NDMC grips and even with those eventually the hole gets elongated over time and the sensors start unscrewing a bit, I just cut electrical tape in half to make a thin strip and wrapped it around top of grip and bottom of sensor. Never had an issue since then, it also helps the sensor blend in better as the green line is hidden by the tape.

I did the same thing- covering the green stripe makes it where i don't even realize they are on my club anymore. I also experimented with plumbers tape around the grooves and that worked fairly well too.

I picked up Arccos for Christmas off an Amazon lightning sale and got my first round with it yesterday. I really enjoyed it, although I had some problems dialing in the user interface and some technical issues. Thought I would post my thoughts here so those who've got some experience can let me know some tips they've found or features I'm missing.

The most challenging issue I had was moving the flag around and selecting the first putt distance. I find I wish I could zoom in to a greater degree to put the flag on the green, it was a bit cumbersome with the overlapping tags if you hit a chip shot from close to the green and then need to locate the pin. I would say it took me about 5 or 6 holes to get used to the user interface and figure it out. I was unable to find the "gimme putt" button- I assume it was replaced by the plus/minus putt button. I also wish there was the ability to edit the round after the fact on the computer desktop when you notice an issue from your round.

I also notice an issue with my GW sensor not tracking 2 shots during the round and went home and checked all my sensors. I noticed that 3 of the batteries were dead and my putter was ready for replacement. This troubled me, as I said this was my first round with the system. I do go to the range once every week or two and tend to leave a couple of clubs in the trunk of my car. Is there an issue with the batteries being left in the cold, I don't think the volume of practice I do would run down the batteries much?

I previously used GolfLogix to track basic stats and as a gps device to pic targets and yardages on the course. I like the Arccos basic interface when used as GPS device, the ability to dial the target over various features. GolfLogix has more features and yardages, but honestly I didn't miss them, and it was a bit faster to get the information I wanted. I liked the front-middle-back yardage you get immediately when the device is opened prior to an approach shot. I've grown used to putting a bunch of information in after a hole in a clunky interface, so moving the pins or fixing one of the yardage mistakes didn't seem all that intrusive to me.

Overall I'm happy with my purchased and looking to getting some more rounds and data, as well as addressing the issues I've had with my sensors with the company.

I've only got 2 rounds in with mine and had to do some minor editing but it's super easy. Gives me great stats and takes out some guessing. With the season starting back up I'm hoping to be able to see improvements in fairways, greens and distances. Battery life shows lower in the clubs I've used the most (driver/wedge/putter). Not sure how far away I am from replacing but if it's less than what they suggest I'll contact them to see what they can do since their service seems to be great.

I too bought a bunch of batteries off Amazon. Here's the deal I got. 20 batteries for $7.99 (That's with Prime).

When I got mine a couple were dead so I went ahead and got the 20 pack. It makes the sting a little less with that deal.

I bought a 50 pack since you're gonna change them at least once during the season. I figured I'd end up changing them twice.

I've used the Arrcos for a couple of rounds now and really enjoy it and the info that it is providing. I am curious, I can't seem to figure out how to tell it to not include a shot in the statistics. I figured out how to do it for a whole round, but not specific shots. Does anyone know how to to this? Can you do it after the round is over?
