I tried a Square Back and a Fast Back and there was a huge difference! The Square Back felt like I was hitting a rock and the Fast Back felt like every other Scotty that I've hit. Both had the Baby T grip for what it's worth. The sales guy even commented on the Square Back's sound not being right.

+1 on this. I was set to get the squareback as a replacement to the studio select NP 2 that I had recently sold and the sound and feel just wasn't right. However the fastback felt pretty good and almost like the NP2. All three had the titleist cord grips.

Go to golf stores during my lunch break on a regular basis. Been comparing the Fastback and Squareback at different stores since they were out. I have to admit, the Squareback does feel "harder" than the Fastback. After testing in the stores, I think the Fastback is the putter I would choose - not just for the feel, visually it's more appealing at setup. That surprised me because before I had a chance to try in person, I really thought I was going to LOVE the Squareback.

I thought the whole studio select line felt terrible. For some reason, I just can't get along with the SS Cameron's. I have putted with some circle T's that felt great in SS, but not worth the price tag that gets associated to them. My SS Mills feels much better to me, dare I say on par with the circle T's that i have putted with and a fraction of the price. I even think the Ping Redwood's feel better than Camerons retail line.

The other thing that surpised me is the lack of head feel in the Cameron's. Even the heavy headed models lack head feel. I like to feel the head back and trough when i putt and the Stuio Select line just felt loose to me.

I have only tried rolling in on the carpet in the store, but I have done it a few times.

The feeling reminds of the Never Compromise Exchange. That putter felt a little "hollow" or to actually put it better "not dense".

I had tried an experiment with the Exchange. I put a little material (actually just pieces of paper) in between the sole plate and the bottom before closing to make sure there was no space in between the sole plate and the weights. The feel improved.

MAYBE the space in between the weight changes the feel? Has anyone tried putting something, rubber perhaps, in the space that is left by the weights?

It could just be mental as well.

WOW, I thought I was CRAZY.............I"m not no scratch player but do have very very good feel.I"ve owned many scottys and just got the squareback it rolled very well at store but it does feel hard off face and like another post said hollow might even sum it up better.I tried it with a rx ball and it did feel better as the rx is in my opinion the softest putting ball.I also did not want to wait or pay extra for heavier weights so i got stock 35", got some lead tape went to my post office had the clerk weight out 23, 24 grams of tape and put that on the sole and it did feel better,BUT still this putter does have a feel I"ve never felt with any other cameron........Have not played on actual green yet still trying to decide if I should keep it or go back and swap it out for another model.. :fool:

Agree -- after being unhappy with the feel of my Studio Select Newport 1.5, I spent hours testing every other SS model, including the Squareback, Fastback, etc. I finally switched over to the Circa '62 line and chose a No. 1 that feels much softer, more balanced and smooth as silk.

Carbon Steel vs. Stainless steel is the biggest reason there. Carbon steel is oooohhh so much softer than stainless, even 303 stainless.
