Making my pilgramage to Golf Mecca

Alright, I am going to Myrtle Beach soon on Vacation and am going to play about 4 rounds, Any suggestions?

I liked all of these courses and would not hesitate playing any of them again. I researched the HELL out of these for the last five years and have some on my list if I could convince my crew to stay down south (Caledonia & True Blue). Up North I was going to play Tiger's Eye, but he greens were scheduled to be airated the day before.

 

If you're looking for 'stay & play' packages, your best bet is Legends or Barefoot. Legends has great accommodations and free breakfast buffet and practice facility usage (top notch). Barefoot courses are very good, but the Dye design is all but unfair (aren't all Dyes??). Wild Wing is another 'package' place but I heard they aren't in the best shape as of late (same with Tidewater).

If you are looking for a package deal go to www.seamist.com they have the best rates around for stay and play.

 

I lived there for 43 years and have seen alot come and go this is the one my buddies still use to this day.

I lived there for 5 years and was playing 3-5 times a week for the last 6 months!! Here's the order I would suggest playing them in if you have a chance:

 

Caledonia (call me if you play here, I can help with a tee time.) Also my all time favorite course down there!

The Dunes Club (semi-private)

All 4 courses at Barefoot are top notch, Fazio, Dye, Love, Norman.

River's Edge

Wachesaw Plantation (Private)

Rivers Edge that played pretty tuff for me i also like Carolina Nat. the Couples course but played the Surf Club sat. was in great shape and I beat the rain.

It's a little out of the way, but Shaftsbury Glen are the best greens you'll see down there. A-1 Bent.

 

It is about 25 minutes west of Hwy. 17.

Dad and I will be taking a trip to Golf Mecca within a year and a half or so... I'll be following this thread very closely and thank you to all contributors ;)

Lets get something straight first. Myrtle Beach is not Golf Mecca. From Wikipedia "The term 'Mecca' has come into common usage metaphorically to mean any all-important site for any particular group of people." If anything Golf Mecca is St Andrews or Augusta National.

 

I am from SC and have been to MB countless times. There are some great courses there. Caledonia and Pawley's Plantation are a couple of my favorites. Stay away from Wicked Stick. If you are coming to SC to play golf I would suggest going to Kiawah Island, the site of the 2007 Senior PGA and the 2012 PGA Championships, not to mention the 1991 Ryder Cup. Or go to Hilton Head for that matter.
