What's with Henrik Stenson's swing trigger??

I am not a follower of Henrik. I have seen videos on YouTube of his swing 1 year ago. Sunday I noticed a weird lower body move that would trigger his swing. Weird looking to me if you really watched his lower body. Did the broadcast team say ever mention this?? I figured Jonny M would pick a part that type of lower body move. Looked almost like a leaning back move. I don't think that Henrik did this a year ago. Just an observation. With so many robotic swings on tour it was kind of interesting to see a top flight pro do this.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's that very slight lean to his right side that starts the swing. No clue if the team has ever mentioned though. I haven't seen him swing recently, but I'm guessing it must have gotten a little more exaggerated than the slight lean in the video below.

Definitely seems more pronounced now. Very strange move.

I think he has been doing this for years. I am speculating here, but this move coupled with the small re-positioning of the club head at address may be his way of getting over the swing yips from a few years ago...pretty remarkable to see how much work he put into his game to be in the discussion almost every week he plays

Stenson is one of the best iron ball strikers on tour. Might be a good move to incorporate............;)

He had a lot of bother in the past with almost the full swing yips first coming up in around 2001. I can't remember what his swing was like back then but it's possible that a little trigger like that helps him getting going. Whatever it's for, it works.

For years and years. Presets weight to his right. More exaggerated when he's swinging harder.

Yeah he's had that little trigger for a few years now. But one thing I recently noticed was that he made a smaller similar move over a putt as well.

Always thought he was simply kicking his knee inwards into a K position to reinforce his weight shift? Actually like the look of it and I think a few other pro's do a similar move, but maybe not so pronounced.

Yeah, he's been doing it for a long time. He did it more with his putts last year though, he's often steady now.

I think the amazing thing with Henrik is he's looking at the target by the time he hits the ball.

At least he does this with his irons anyway.

I need a trigger. I've been using Kuch's hovering of the club, but with only moderate success. Maybe I need to try Stensons.

I remember listening to him on pga radio a couple months ago. A caller asked him for advice about improving his ball striking and wondered what Henrik did to become a great ball striker - Stenson had absolutely no explanation as to why he is one of the best in the game. The other guys in the studio had a good laugh about it.

Yes. I could not put that into words for some reason.

Presets his weight shift (he used to sway) and big forward press with hands. His swing is halfway complete before the club even goes back.

 

He's also very connected with his upper arms close to his rib cage. It's a definite modified Ballard swing. Ballard's swing methods were adopted

by the Swedish Golf Federation. Annika had some similar swing characteristics.
