Lamest Masters

playa

Recommended Posts

I found last years Masters to be one of the most boring in recent memory. Watching one player run away with it generally is pretty boring to watch.

I thought it was great, but I watched all of Jordan's rounds thanks to Masters.com. He was simply unbelievable and you knew you were watching something special on Thursday. Sunday did provide some drama as Phil and Rose tried to catch him.

I think it is going to take a few years to truly appreciate what Jordan did last year, especially if he can build off the immense success he had last year in the next few to come.

I completely agree, but I'm still a little surprised how many here thought it was boring.

Yea it's kinda tough, if you replace Spieth with Tiger last year people will be talking about it as a top 5 major of all time.

I do kinda think Kaymer at #2 was boring though, I think because it wasn't historic like spieths and he just kinda surgically dismantled the course. So I do see how a healthy victory can be boring but I don't think last years Masters falls into that category.

I'll agree with others and say Weir, Immelman, Johnson, and Spieth. Nothing against those players I just thought those tournaments were boring to watch. No drama, no late charge by anyone, nothing really that made it fun to watch. I could even throw in Schwartzel's win in there too maybe.

Not sure how you could call Norman's collapse lame. Poor performance maybe, but definitely not a lame Masters by any means.

To me, Schwartzel's was possibly the best one since 86. I mean big names were going off a few groups back, there were 10 guys that could have won on the back nine and then Charl Birdies the last 4 in a row? Maybe it would have read better if a "bigger" name would have won but that event had me absolutely glued to the TV!!

The top 6 guys shot 66, 68, 67, 69, 67,67 All in the last few groups.

Tiger shot 31 on the front and then gave away the masters by being the only guy to stall on the back nine. Ogilvie birdied 5 in a row on the back nine. Day shot 32 on the back and Adam Scott shot 33 and both of them should have been 30.

I wish every Masters was like that!!

The Immelman and Weir Masters, to me, are only 'lame' because they haven't done squat since. Yet, if anything, they will play in this tournament until they don't want to any longer.

not for anything but if I could win a 'lame' Masters I would die a pretty happy dude.

Ok let's give Weir a break, he did win twice after the Masters win. He has won a Tour Championship and a WGC event. This isn;t too bad for a career.

  • Wins – 8
  • 2nd-place finishes – 10
  • 3rd-place finishes – 8
  • Top 10 finishes – 69
  • Top 25 finishes – 140

To be fair, I'm Canadian and 2003 was a boring Masters!

Finished t3 at the US open in '03 too. Now obviously he is terrible right now but back in '03 he was quite good.

Back in 03 I bet you Weir could hit a golf ball over those mountains....

Seriously, i'm with you guys on this one...

The guy won 30 million dollars in his career. I'd say he's a little better than a journeyman! How soon we all forget in today's fast pace "what have you done for me lately" era.

Yup. I think Weir's medical exemptions he's parlaying into 20 mc's in a row or whatever is hurting his career legacy a bit though.

Even if you thought Spieth's run was boring, Phil and Rose provided some entertainment. They finished only 4 back, and I'm sure many were thinking that Jordan would collapse making way for Phil to get his 4th jacket.

Kaymer winning the US Open was boring though. That course does nothing for me. Augusta is different, obviously.

No such thing as a "lame" masters. I can't think of another tournament that has such dramatic finishes. If you don't appreciate someone two putting their way to a green jacket then you aren't realistic about what golf really is.

Two putting for bogie in a playoff like Weir is falling into the green jacket, it was just a matter of not choking quite as bad as your opponent. Not surprised he hasn't backed it up.

whenever a short knocker is in contention.

boring to watch, no athletic ability. instead of having the top 50 in the world, they should have the top 50 longest hitters in the world.

Yes, let's introduce the electrifying mediocrity of Ollie Schniederjans and Harold Varner III into major play at the Masters. The cut line is quivering as we speak...

I found Norman's collapse to be epic and I enjoyed every shot.

It was the first time in at the time 29 years in the game and today, 49 years in the game that I reveled in another man's misery and terrible play however I found myself after his splash ball on #16, which was my shot of the tourney because the look on his face was priceless and if you ever watch it look for that because they pan back to him before he slams his iron and attempts to clean the mud from the thick shot, and all of his arrogance, narcissism and hubris splashed into that pond along with his ball-

I was a little down the other day after chemo and decided to watch it(I have a 3:00 montage of his collapse that day on my phone :) ) and it still makes me smile as much today as it did in 1996~

I dont know why it is not mentioned more Zach johnson win at plus one in the Masters and laying up on every par 5. sorry pass.

they had just lengthened the course to "Tiger Proof" it, and it was very cold and windy that year. I got no problem with Zack's win... 72 holes...add 'em up...who had the lowest score??

i am not saying his win was illegitimate, shot the lowest score and won. he deserved the win at that point. just that it was not exciting to watch is all.

Someone finally understands how I feel about Tom Brady! Huge Eli Manning fan just because he broke Tom's heart twice. I was told as a child that cheaters never win. Unfortunately they were wrong.

I remember watching that tournament with my Dad and saying it was all over after 9.

It's still amazing what a monumental collapse it was.

I mean, his rinse on 16 wasn't even close!!!

I saw Faldo say how nervous HE was during the event, but you'd never have known it. It was the quietest 67 perhaps ever on that course.
