If you want to stop it, go to events and yell obscenities. The network will go to delay to avoid fines from the FCC, and start dumping audio.

Which the network could already do IF THEY ACTUALLY WANTED IT TO STOP. They obviously don't care.

If you keep watching, you're also endorsing it. What would prompt the network to try to stop it if you keep watching? Or prompt the Tour to try to stop it?

It's like those slow play threads - if you keep paying to play someplace that has slow play issues, your vote in the market is that you don't care about pace of play.

Avrag, not a lawyer, although that's far from the first time I've been "accused" of it! I left law school in year 2. I also think it's just "logic" and not "lawyer logic" - the failure to practice or understand "logic" does not mandate the modifier to appease those that are confusing ethics and logic.

The problem with your logic is it penalizes the people who want to watch golf. So we have to weigh the negative of stupid yells vs the positive of watching golf. I'm not going to stop watching golf to avoid the yells. Yes, it's a distraction, but not enough to make me boycott golf on TV.

And I'm not even sure the tour or TV want to stop it.

They really need to start kicking these asshats out of the venue. Why can't that happen??

Truth: because it's actually good for business.

If it weren't, they would do something about it

You're right of course, for the simple reason that it won't actually deter anyone from attending the event, but rather provide an additional talking point for the media. *sigh* I'm just expressing my sadness for having to tolerate the brainless morons that feel the need to scream out their favourite side dish after a golf ball is hit.

Again, that's not a problem with my logic - it's not even my logic. It's just logic. Life is full of these situations - you either bargain away your justification to complain or do what is necessary to affect change.

I'm reminded of the serenity prayer in these kinds of situations. If you aren't willing to do what you need to in order to change something, you've tacitly made the bargain that it's not really that big a deal to you.

The only state I hate more than Texas is Arizona.... For similar reasons. There's just an overwhelming number of obnoxious attention seeking idiots who live in Texas and it's earned its reputation as one of the more hated stated in America.

Your logic is flawed on so many different levels, it's not even funny... So when the yelling starts, we're supposed to turn the station for however many seconds, then turn back to see the golf shots? Is that seriously what you're saying we should do?

No, if you're paying attention I'm saying either stop complaining or do something about it. If you aren't willing to vote with your actions, stfu, is what I'm saying.

Because if you don't act, you either just like to b**** or it actually isn't that big a deal to you... Or both.

Either way, stop being so fatalistic. Move, or sit, but don't complain about a sore butt if you choose to sit.

But you cant always go punch somebody in the mouth, much as the situation warrants

You know that.

Unfortunately the reality is we can't do anything about it. In fantasy land us not watching may change something (much like voting for people who are supposed to represent our interests). The fact is, if we stop watching, the only people penalized are ourselves because we've taken away a source of enjoyment.

Super idea there - give volunteers the means and direction to do some violence to contain rudeness. While you're at it, let's just establish martial law and do away with juries and due process and such.

It's not specific to this internet forum, but it amazes me that so many people in this "gentleman's game" here repeatedly advocate violence as a solution for behavior that they deem unseemly.

It's an etiquette issue, right? Where does assault fall on the scale of acceptable behavior to some of you? More acceptable than being loud and rude? Really?
