Jersey is a thin, soft and stretchy cotton like material. Pique is your standard woven polo, cotton usually as well. Not sure what Lisle is, I know that's what FJ calls one of their shirts. I believe it is that thicker, drifit polyester material they often use.

Pique has more cotton in the blend. It has a rougher feel to it. They typically tend to be less expensive than a lisle but are still nice shirts. Lisle has a soft stretchy feel to it. I prefer lisle myself.

I'm not sure what jersey is as all the FJ shirts I carry in my shop are pique or lisle.

I did notice pique and lisle was all Footjoy offered, I was only asking about jersey material as another way to compare fabrics, thank you for your info

I am hoping someone can school me on shirt fabrics? I cannot seem to find solid info on the differences between lisle, pique and jersey? I am looking particularly at Footjoy and can't seem to get solid info in the differences, tell me your fabric of choice and why.

Think of your standard Ralph Lauren polo shirt. That thick cotton with Porous holes. That is what pique is. However golf piques are blended with some polyester to make them softer and more flexible and lighter for athletic movement. It's a thicker more natural feeling fiber that allows for a decent amount of airflow. Usually guys who don't want to "show off their bods" prefer pique because it drapes a little more and doesn't cling to you as much. Also, if you live in a really hot climate (like i do) the piques are better because they ventilate air easier and sweat dries much faster.

Jersey shirts are have more of that "techy stretchy" feel. They are the more lightweight and modern alternative. They do a very good job of keeping the body cool. However in very high temps (where it's impossible to stay cool) they tend to show more sweat and cling.

You can see i probably prefer performance pique - but that has more to do with where i live than anything.

This is great info and exactly what I was looking for, a little more descriptive of the fit and feel. I live in Kansas and with the heat pique may be best, lisle is very prone to stick when it's mid July. I really like the lisle shirt material but it is usually clingy. I have a good amount of shirts, ua, Nike, ash worth, adidas etc but haven't really looked at the fabrics...

I would also recommend looking at the Under Armour Playoff polo's. They seem to be best of both worlds.

I have a couple ua polos which I really like but they are somewhat clingy, not sure they are the same as you speck of though.

Yeah some of them are clingy. I am very picky about shirt fabrics. I really don't like a lot of the new technical fabrics. I think they feel cheap. I own the UA playoff stripe polo in just about every color though. So that may tell you something

Sounds like we are on the same page, I seem to be getting more picky therefore don't want to spend 75.00 on a shirt I am unhappy with, I will take a closer look at the stripped UA playoff polos, sound pretty good.

You don't have to spend $75. There are some good deals like this on ebay. And if you live near an under armour outlet you can get them usually around half price.

If you want to know the actual manufacturing differences, Google is your best bet. As far as FootJoy shirts go, I can give you my take. The vast majority of the FootJoy shirts you'll find are Lisle or Pique. I have both, thou far more are the Lisle version. The Lisles have more of a nicer finish to them, kind of like a Mercerized cotton polo look. While with the Pique, you can see the weave in the fabric. Now there's nothing wrong with that, it just appears to have a different look.

Both styles are stretchy, the Lisle more so than the Pique. They both are moisture wicking and easy to care for. I don't think either is better than the other as far as wearing in hot temps, both do a great job. I prefer the Lisle as a personal preference, but have no problem wearing my FJ Piques any time that color combo works out.

I will say this though, make sure you try them on if you can. The different styles come with slightly different fits and can make a difference in the size you get. And the Athletic Fit style is an excellent choice if you like a shorter sleeve and a slimmer fit, also may help to fit you better if you're in between sizes. FYI, none of them shrink at all.

Good Luck and happy shopping! :-)

I spent some time reading the differences on google but never got a firm grasp on each of them. I think I will take your advice and go try them on, however athletic fit usually it's my speed, I really like the designs of their lisle polos just not sure how they will fit. I usually prefer something slightly looser.

It's really what you like. I wouldn't worry if it's a Lisle or a Pique. If it fits you well and you like the design, buy it! Don't be afraid to try different sizes of the same shirt. Cheers!

Interesting thought you have, never really tried an athletic fitted shirt just in a larger size, FJ has some really nice offerings with athletic fitted shirts.
