Funny it's been like 4 months since I've bought new irons so naturally I was browsing on eBay for a new set and thought to myself, wait the new PINGS should be coming out around late summer. This announcement probably saved me $500-600, perfect timing. Really hoping an emphasis on sound and feel is a big part of the marketing.

They're doing this again? It wasn't a blade last time, and it sure isn't now either.

 

i doubt they mean it as an actual traditional blade. just blade like. its clearly a player's cavity and they will tout the forgiveness as such a cavity would give but with blade like workability. not a traditional blade, but a modern-teched up take on one. like 3woods arent actually made of wood, this isnt technically a blade, it just has a lot of the good blade characteristics with a lot of added forgiveness. there's definitely a marketing angle here to appeal to better players no doubt, but its not really off-base to say something like this gives a lot of the qualities people look for in a blade. i guess there are some people that want an unforgiving club and these won't be for them. this is for those that want the workability and turf interaction of a blade but with a lot tech/forgiveness. so blade-like. its not technically a blade, its just ping's version of one.

For some reason though, I am a bit surprised they went away from the S design (with the small bars in the cavity, etc.); maybe because I'm so used to the iterative design from past S-series. But it's great they changed it up and made a super clean design like the Glide wedges.

 

The outlined font on the bottom is a bit odd to me, but not a big deal. Interesting they didn't add the Ping logo in either the cavity or on the muscle housing the CTP. Maybe some small details will change for retail release.

 

It's very difficult to tell on my monitor here at work, but where does the tungsten stop in the irons? 8? 9? Interesting they didn't stop at the 7 like we've seen in other irons.

Like the finish. They look smaller than the S55's.

 

I was just thinking the same thing about size. They look narrower toward the hosel than my S59s, and probably the S55s too.
