Can't decide on which rangefinder

Recommended Posts

I've read and read on rangefinders and after using a cheap older one the other day I'm hooked and must have one:>)

I have it narrowed down to the Callaway 550, Bushnell V2 tour, or the 1500 TE. I demoed the three today and still can't decide. I like the moveable eyepiece on the 1500, but preferred the smaller size of the other two. I preferred the Cally sightlines inside better, but have read the V2 is actually better. I'm sure any of the three will be just fine for my needs, but still can't decide. $ is not a factor on this purchase as it will be around for awhile.

Can you guys steer me? I've read and read most of the threads and reviews, argh.

I actually liked using one inside of 100 yds, man was I usually off in the 60-90 range. I am an average bogey golfer trying to improve my game in all aspects. So, many of my shots will be behind trees, in other fairways, etc. I'll use it to judge distances to clear trees in my way, how far to lay up or go for it when I shank a shot and so forth. If I was in the fairway I wouldn't even need one.

I have the Callaway LR550, and it is perfect IMO. I like the size of the unit. It is very easy to hit the flag all the way up to 400 yards, even with trees behind the green. I tested out the other 2 you are asking about, and the only one that I even considered for a bit was the TE Bushnell. The Bushnell doesn't really do anything that the Callaway doesn't. I think you would be pleased with the Callaway.

Plenty of threads on this topic.....Suffice to say I went with the 1500 TE....Great ease of use, easy target acquisition, and waterproof as well....

Yeah ,

But it's a BRICK....

I have used Nikon and recently lost it . I want a small size .

Are you saying CALLAWAY, NIKON,LEUPOLD ,V2 are not as good rangefinders?

I am debating between cally and leupold. Leupold is waterproof. Callaway has the best accuracy for distance ( nitpicking).

I recently played with a buddy who had a smaller one and I had my Bushnell Pinseeker. Yes, the Pinkseeker was a little larger, but we both agreed that it was a lot easier to hold still which is key. So try them out before you buy.

I have a Bushnell Tournament Edition 1500 and it is great. My wife uses a GolfLogix GPS which is very easy to use, front back and middle yardages. We carry rechargable batteries so we always have power. When we play togeather, we have a lot of info at our finger tips. The GPS is great for blind shots over hills or trees. With the Bushnell or other hand held units, you need a line of site. Good luck and have fun.

+1 here. You don't really need a range finder for over the 550 yards. The LR550 is also waterproof, easy to see with the cross lines, has pin seeker, etc.

Can't go wrong for the price. There really isn't much difference compared to the others, OTHER than size. If you want a bigger one, or need a bigger one to keep steady, that would be a deciding factor.

I got the Callaway (Nikon) LR1200, its great, can't say I will really need the extra distance, if I am over 260 yds, I just don't care...but it is very easy to use, I have no problems keeping it still in the ranges that I use it and the magnification is excellent. At the time, I was not concerned abt the dollars, so i purchased the most expensive one, but I think that the LR 550 is likely fine, i have tried the bushnells and the leupold (sp?) and they are great products, I would happily own a Bushnell pinseeker 1500, it will certainly do the job. In saying that I have no issues with the callaway unit, its small very accurate and easy to use. Good luck with your purchase, you are going to love it whatever it is.

Just a note on using any rangefinder, most of my mates have 1 go and say its too hard to keep still, it took me like 10 goes to work out how to use it properly and I have NO issues with stability. I can definitely shoot the flag at 300m plus (not that I need to).

Just remember... those beta blockers you must be using to be able to shoot a flag at 300 meters will show up in the Tour's drug testing program! ;)

Just kidding.

I want to thank everyone for their insight and responses. It was a hard choice, but today I came home with the Cally 550. Price wasn't a determining factor, though it was nice to save a few bucks for once in this world of golf.

Simply put...I liked the way it felt and responded in my hands the best, so that was the deciding factor. Should be fun and helpful.

Again, thank you.
