Piggy backing on this thread as I too am looking at private options.

I have read a few comments on caddies at Cherokee. Are they required out there? Cost?

Does anyone have the latest initiation and dues for Druid Hills for young exec (under 35)?

If youre really intersted in joining somewhere just send the membership director a quick email with a little blurb.

theyll send you something back pretty quick.

Both of those clubs are invitation only.

You will live in Brookhaven....everyone else does!

Berkeley Hills is where you want to be, no question.

And can we settle this Stewart Cink Berkeley thing once and for all. He may be a "member" at Berkeley but he lives at Sugarloaf and his best friend is GM/Pro at East Lake, has he even set foot on Berkeley in recent years, don't see why he would?

I'm a member at Berkeley and before his wife got sick, I saw him quite regularly. He prefers our greens because of their speed for practice, but yes he plays all over. To say he isn't an active member is incorrect though. Anyway....

You should check out Berkeley Hills if you live anywhere in the city or northeast suburbs. I'm inside 285 and there are a lot of us under 40 who do the same. The Junior membership is $1000 down and $275 a month, which includes pool and tennis (and the whole family). We have a very competitive playing membership and you can definitely find some money games...and I'm in them. We have multiple guys who play USGA and state AMs, college players, tour pros and LPGA ladies around the club. Rivermont is worth a look too if you move deeper into the suburbs. If you have $50K+ that you want to put down and get on a waiting list, then some of the suggestions above would be in play.

As you will see, Atlanta metro is stacked with great private golf. You just need to break down where you live and whether you want $100K, $50K, $10K or little/to none initiation fees...and their matching levels of dues.

  • 3 weeks later...

My buddy tells me (under 35) he's financing a $20k initiation fee over 4 years and paying about $500/month dues.

Catch is he can only play the 18 hole courses 8 times a year. Open access to range and par 3.

I know there's a tier above this with a higher initiation that will allow full access but I don't know the exact number.

WTF? I can get out there for $120. Lol he's playing it for $750? Mother of god

Club Corp has The Manor, White Columns and Atlanta National as a trio under a Champions membership. This level allows play anytime on all 3 courses and then other Club Corp courses twice a month for just a cart fee. The initiation is $8-15k depending on specials, $600/yr unlimited cart usage, $650/mo. The lower ONE membership is $10k initiation, $560/mo and $1200/yr unlimited cart usage. The ONE membership requires declaring a home course and then access to other Club Corp courses. The Champions is a great deal.

Atlanta National/White Columns has been terrible since Club Corp came in. Very heavy course usage leading to slow rounds and often not recognizing anyone at the course other than management. If you enjoy getting out for a quick (3.5 hours and less) round do not join here. I recently dropped my membership due to pace of play issues and moved to Golf Club of Georgia. Best move I ever made and should have done it a year ago. If you're looking for exceptional golf, active membership, quick pace of play and two great courses you might look into it. Another place with great pace of play, but a bit further out, is Hawks Ridge.

Honestly, while playing at White Columns/Atlanta National/Manor I would up playing my weekly game at Echelon instead. There the greens are in better shape, fairways comparable and pace of play SO much better that Club Corp.

Do you consider $8 to $15K initiation and $650/month a deal ? Not me ! Clubs are begging for members, no way am I paying these fees.

I would say in the metro Atlanta area, over the age of 35, those numbers are pretty much in line for a private club. Monthly fees are going to range from $400 to 700. Sure you can find some better deals at clubs further out of town, but then you would never be able to actually get there to play or practice. But hey, at least you got a deal.
