I tried a Grip Master. It has some kind of tacky stuff impregnated into it. And the stuff comes off onto my hands if I make several swings in a row with one club. It's black, like the grip. Does this happen with Best Grips?

No.

I had gripmasters about 6 years ago -- they were overly tacky and could be uncomfortably too tacky, as you stated above. You might wrap them in newspapers to help get rid of excess goo.

When I installed the bestgrips and played them, my first thought was "these are not gripmasters. I don't feel the goo."

I purchased cz's custom set of grips (mentioned earlier in this thread) and this led to 2 more sets. I've installed Best Grips Classics on my 'gamers', and MicroPerfs on my back ups and back ups to my back ups.

I have small hands (cadet small) but really like the size and constant taper. The grips are tacky (especially when wet) but not overly so. I can carry them with or without a glove, but use a glove out of habit and the fact that I have 24 to burn through.

I blow the grips on with one wrap of painters tape and soapy water. When I want to clean them (usually after every three or four rounds) I wipe them down with warm water. All three sets look like the day I bought them.

I'm a fan.

What kind of taper are we talking about? I happen to like less taper than traditional grips. Such as the GP +4, etc.

Then you may like these...

Blew mine on with gorilla tape and a little bit of Bramptons. Must be careful with air gun - just needs a tiny bit of air. They blow on and off quite easily.

They need to make them a little smaller. Otherwise great grips!

This is the problem I had, felt like a mid+ size grip. I wear a cadet small glove and couldn't keep my right hand on top. Does anyone happen to know if GripMaster wraps play true to size or if they're larger too.

First off, I have Micro Perfs on my irons (4 wraps painters tape) and love them. To answer your question about Master grip, yes, they are smaller. When installed with a single layer of painters tape, I would say they are slightly undersize. I install them with 6 wraps of painters tape + 2 extra under the lower hand. If you find the MG wraps are too tacky (many say so), wrap them in news paper overnight and it will remove some of the tackiness. Repeat until you're happy with it.

I HAVE air installed with no tape, but slippage can occur (especially with steel shafts). You really need to pay attention to the amount of taper in the butt section of steel shafts to avoid any slipping issues.

WARNING!!!! If you are enticed to get the MG Wrap Factory Seconds, You will go through the entire NY Times Sunday edition attempting to lessen their tackiness. DO NOT get the seconds unless you LIKE THEM TACKY!

Interesting about the wraps. I played wraps for years and could very well make wraps now, but the stitched grip is a superior grip. I wouldn't even dream of switching back.

I really like a wrap grip on my adjustable woods and wedges (I open the face a lot for flops, etc.).The MG wrap grips I use have adhesive of some sort on the overlapping section (1/8") which is also recessed (thinner). I have never had the problem you are describing with any of my leather wrapped grips, even after re-installing on another underlast!. I HAVE run into it on WINN wrap grips however which are smooth taper (no recess and not overlapped).

Just an FYI, many players like the feel of a wrap grip as opposed to the stitchbacks. As mentioned above, I like both types depending on the club they're going on. I noticed on your site you sell leather straps for Hickory installations, so you're in the wrap market already. Perhaps taking some of those straps and adding the adhesive strip to the overlapping section would be something you might consider. They definately need to overlap and have a thinner edge where the overlap occurs. I, for one, would still buy stitchbacks for my irons though.
