Bluejack National... anyone played it yet?

Does it live up to the hype? The videos look amazing, the reviews are stellar, and I'm sure it's had enough rain this year to grow out. How does it play?

I was thinking of trying to play it, but when I look at their website it says "by invitation only" so not sure how one would even be able to play. Looks nice.

Nah, I would only go there for the zip lining, fishing pond(s), speakeasy with signature cocktails, fruit stand, bowling alley, tree house, wiffle ball park, football field, spa, outdoor movie theater, etc. The website for this amusement park is a hoot. Sorry to be so enthusiastic but It reminds me of Michael Jackson's Neverland...

i was lucky enough to get the opportunity to play 9 holes a few months back. it was a combo of some holes that will ultimately be on the front 9 and some from the back 9. the remaining holes were finished, but not in playing condition yet. the ones that were playable were in great condition already. you can tell this course is going to be a gem when it matures a little.

 

the layout of the holes we got to play were fantastic. wide enough to be fun for all, but setup to require some serious shots to play it competitively. Tiger says that his goal was to pay homage to Augusta. I have no idea if he accomplished that or not since i've never visited Augusta, but i can say that it reminds me of Donald Ross courses --- very playable from tee to green and then extremely hard around the greens, green speeds at a ridiculous level with serious contour and depth. One of the pros playing with us told us that they've had to slow the greens down because members were complaining --- and they were still ridiculously fast when we played. It was difficult to lose a ball since the woods had been cleared and the ground covered in pine straw (again, like Donald Ross courses, to me ---- but without the huge waste areas). it was interesting to see how much elevation change they were able to get on the property considering the flatness of the houston area -- definitely added an element that you can't really get anywhere in the area. I'm excited to perhaps get the opportunity to play all 18 some time in the future as i hear it's all open now.

 

one of the coolest parts of the course (at least the parts we got to play) were the views and vantage points. there are a couple of spots where you can see nearly a dozen other holes. it will be a great spectator course if they ever choose to host a tournament.

 

most of the facilities can be viewed online, so not too much detail to add there; suffice to say, the Nike fitness/training center was pretty ridiculous and the par-3 course looks awesome (it was finished but not playable when we visited).

 

i'm on the fence about joining for a number of reasons, but it's worth noting that right now this place is not as ridiculous as you may think to join --- the cost certainly puts it into the top tier of houston area clubs, but not as much as the high end places. i think it's only a matter of time though considering the amenities this club is going to have.
