Its just marketing and Cameron exploiting the public to making them think anything with a circle T came from the tour van or actually came from the hands of a tour player.

But he has watered down the circle T branding so much that it is losing its value (check out ebay auctions for circle T stuff - not as high as it used to be).

There is even a Circle T letter opener and ballmarker for crying out loud. That is how watered down he has made that brand. But as the saying goes, there still is a sucker born every minute.

Marketing. Completely not worth it in my book. A tour players putter is not going to personally make me a better player. I'll save my $2000.

I don't think any tour player with a "Circle T" on their putter really wants it there or cares if it is. It's the drive that the average consumer wants something designated "tour". It's an ego thing. If everyone is so huge into playing what the professionals play...Tiger doesn't have a Circle T stamp, why haven't people jumped on that.

Hey guys it's like a car, a pinto and a MB S 500 will both get you from point A to B, but what a difference in CLASS! (it is a mind game too!)

I would question whether there is any difference in class. Maybe more like a Honda rebadged as an Acura, but what is the real difference to distinguish the two. It's the difference in perception, but quality I would doubt.

I haven't got any Circle T putters in my stable - but I make up for it by needlessly stamping 'PROTO' on all my flatsticks to give the impression that they're something special instead.

Ha I love that idea. We would be the cool ones then wouldn't we. Yeah I was just wondering. Cuz I see people spending tuns of moula on these things when they look the same except for one has a small stamping. I'd rather spend my money on the Cameron headcovers.. Personally opinion. That may even be a waste too. But it impresses friends and looks cool. I guess ill take it haha

This issue was drawn more sharply into focus when a member of the The Cameron Collector asked Cameron's Studio what the difference was between a Tour Studio Select and an off the rack Studio Select. The answer from the Studio: the engraving. That's it. Oh, and $2,000. If you want to pay an extra $2,000 for engraving that says "tour" be my guest.

That said, if you like Scotty Cameron putters and saving a couple of bucks, just buy an OTR Studio Select and know you are getting a putter that is every bit as good as a "tour" putter--but you save $2,000.

If I paid Scotty $2000, do you think I could have a Circle T stamp put on my Red X5? :cheesy:

Like I stated in my previous post, I just don't get it. I understand it on a collectors stand point. If you've got the cash to do that, be my guest, that's kind of cool. If you just want it because you think it's going to be a better suited putter for you...I'd probably think again.

Yeah investment ...

I got one will let go for 500 and paid 1200 when it came out ...

Detour Newport 2 in excellent condition.....

Maybe a GSS Newport 2 , but in today 's economy that 's going down too.

I have to be honest with you, you were ripped off of $1200 for a Detour CT. OTR Detours are worthless. You have to stick to the Newports,Newport 2's etc.

I'd second that.

With that said, it really doesn't make sense to make a tour cameron if there is an otr putter exactly like it. There is no reason to pay $2000 for a CT Cameron Select just like an otr.

But there are some pretty unique tour/ct camerons that were made specifically for the tour players specs. Take for instance the tour camerons in the later 90s. When you look back, those were basically a mil spec with a blank canvas for the tour player tour choose there specs (finish, alignment aid, wt etc.) That is what made it unique though. The fact that you could get a cameron with a different type alignment aid, a different finish, and different weight then an otr is pretty cool.

009's are pretty sweet too. there will never be a retail putter like the 009.

If you want to save money now you can just buy a carbon putter (pro platinums) and send it off to BOS for a finish of your preference. Even though they are great, BOS could have helped deminish the value of some Tour Camerons since they offer the same finishes on an otr that would typically be on a unique ct. JAT

My 2 cents. I have a Ping Anser 2F and sent it off to Lamont Mann in Arizona {found him here @ wrx} and when I got my putter back it was like he put a "mojo" or something on it.Looked like he retumbled the head, remilled the face and even put my face stamps on it.He asked how tall I was,did I miss right or left, etc. He basically "custom fit" me for my own putter. There isnt a Scotty Cameron out there that would replace this putter in my bag. Most of SC's designs {initially} were from expired Ping patents.I dont know how much Lamont is doing now {I had to beg him} but I cant possibly imagine anyone else doing a better job with a putter.Ill be buried with mine.He event put a better, more suitable size wise, grip on it for me.I can not give Lamont Mann enough praises. He can be reached @ [email protected]. Seriously,Lamont is THE MAN. Scotty should hire him and quite frankly he'd be damn lucky to get him.

Thats a great point! There are a lot of companies out there that will make putters for the public to there likings or specs for a fraction of the price (Byron Morgan, C&L etc.)

With that said, the pros aren't using those putters. They are using Cameron Circle T's, 009's, Tour Camerons etc. There is just something about having access to the same thing as the pros especially when it comes to Camerons. Right, Wrong or different its the truth.

There are a few in BST . Going as low as 1400 bucks , may snag one for 1000 if do some serious time on fleabay. previosuly i have seen them go for 2G plus.

Lot of pro who in on the tour play other putters ..., odyssey , seamore . The guy who won two majors last year had a two ball and is amongst the best . C& L , Byron are small companies do not agressively market like scotty.

My detour was the thing 2 yrs ago , when Furyk , petersen had them in their bag . Trust me i am careful when it comes to money. Tablerock was selling them for 2500 in those days ......

Man! Can you send me the link where they're going for $1400.00? I haven't even seen used ones sell for that on ebay. Now is definitely the time to get an 009, Tour Cameron or CT and $1400 is a really good deal.

TableRock is also selling the Select Tours for $2400.00+ too! I'm not so sure that those will retain there value. Heck, there's a guy on TCC selling a couple slightly used ones for $1250 each.

Paddy has one a couple majors with a 2-Ball, Tiger's one a few more with a Cameron. I'm not trying to say one is betther than the other. Of course, one is clearly better. :)

Table Rock doesnt care if they sell Scotty's off their site. They are mainly for Collection Purposes. Again Tiger has won ALOT of Tournaments with a Scotty. Please show me where Newport Detour CT's were selling for $2500..

A lot of people use putters like the 009, or Stainless CT's. DLIII, Anthony Kim used an 009 before the ButtonBack CT. Its probably safer to buy a NP2 CT or NP CT if you want it to maintain its value. Putters like the Detour CT, Newport Detour CT, Futura CT are only hot for a short period of time.

Question: Ebay states that the average person has $1600 worth of junk in there closet that they could sale. If you gathered up all that junk and sold $1600 worth of stuff and had the disposable income would you get a ct? If your not a Cameron fan, probably not. But I think most people would IMO.

If it came down to I had to sell stuff to make $1600, I absolutely would NOT spend it all on a Tour Cameron. If I had cash growing on my tree out back and $1600 was the same to me as the dollar a kid finds on the sidewalk...then heck yes I'd buy one. Just to say I had it though. It still in no way would effect my thinking that it was a better quality or superior piece to other retail offers though. Merely a collection object, topic of discussion, or potentially a gamer (if it could even come close to kicking out my current).

Read what I said first. I'm not saying that if it came down to it. The fact (per ebay) that you have $1600 worth of crap in your house that you could sell on ebay. Whether you choose to sell it or just let it collect dust is your preference. If you pull that stuff together you would accumulate $1600 (in my mind is disposable income).

I'm not saying that it will make you a better golfer either. I'm just saying that technically they are collectors items and it would be pretty cool to have a collectors item.

Personally, I would rather buy a $1600 Cameron CT then spend $1600 on OTR Camerons. Just b/c it will maintain its value. OTR's won't.

speaking of the circle t, I drove by the Texas Club in Dallas yesterday. Their logo looks awfully familiar. The texas club has been around since the mid 80's. I wonder which logo came first?

As the above poster mentioned the Circle T brand is nothing new, ranchers have been branding cattle since the mid 1800's with the circle t logo. Just do a search on google and you would be amazed at all the circle t type goods out there. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=C...amp;aq=f&oq=

Dont get me wrong Im a Cameron fan and would love to get a few more circle t's in the bag but when something is used over and over and over and then you understand in the end its all a marketing ploy the shine loses its luster pretty quickly.

Everything else aside, I sold a 3x Black Oxide TeI3 Newport 2 for $350 last summer. I also sold a completely stock, nothing done to it Studio Stainless Newport 2 34" / 340g for $340. Both at least 5 years old and for more than their original value.

Granted, that's not always going to be the case, and the market for Camerons is way down in the past year. I do see your point as well. Just wanted to throw my counter point in there. :drinks:

Whether it's a Circle T or not, it won't make more putts. Yes, having the right stick makes all the difference, but having a measly "Tour Only" stamp will do nothing but break your wallet and cause frustration when there is little or no improvement. IMHO, the idea behind having a Circle T is nothing more than a status symbol. People like to show off the clubs they have it a bag. Personally, I would never spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a putter that may or may not be suit for my game and putting style. Sure, it's cool to say that you own one, but honestly, what can it possibly do for you?

And then there' the opposite side of the spectrum here....like me.....people who would rummage thru their closets for that 1600 bucks to sell and then contemplate getting 5 OTR Newports at the local Proshop. Just to do it. Only thing I can do now is what I did this afternoon....put down 20 bucks at the local shop and had em put a red cameron studio design grip on my new karsten anser 2, cause welp that's all I can afford. More importanly I did it cause it's a cameron grip. Looks COOL, feels like the Pingman equivalent grip, but it's a scotty grip...! I did it cause it made me feel great. I finally own a nice SC "item"....warped yes...but that's the game here it seems. ;)

Tell me that won't turn heads at the course! ROTFL.

I seriously see the collector's point of view here for sure, and if I did have 1600 bucks totally disposable, WOW I would be tempted and would honestly see that purchase as an investment...not just a putter.

Carry on.
