Famous sound of the anser putter?

Hi!

I was playing a round with an older fellow earlier this summer and he had an ping anser putter. The putter had this sweet sound witch was a clear "ping" as the name states. So I have been reading up on anser putters and my question is this. Do all anser putter with the sound slot have that beautiful ping or only the older versions?

I've seen a lot of the scottsdale 30th limited editions on eBay and I know that they are a bit overpriced but they are brand new, do they sound like that or should I try to find another version?

The new ones sound nothing like the older ones in my opinion

I'm talking about the anser milled and the new anser

I'd stay old school if you're looking for that loud Ping. The mid 90's MgBr Scottsdale remakes would give a similar sound in a heavier head, but not quite the same, IMO. Those are still available via Mortons, etc. I will say, the Anser milled 0 (the one with sound slot) sounds nothing like the older ones. Definitely more muted. Haven't tried the Anser 1966 series, but I would imagine the TR grooves will deaden the sound.

From what you are saying I think the sound in the older ones with the slot is what you are after. IMHO the older ones (pre 85) have that discintive sound. Probably it is due to different mixture of metals and different heating and cooling processes in the early years

There may be a slight auditory difference between the original Ansers and the 90's remakes, but I think it is negligible. I have a 90's MgBr Scottsdale Anser and it has that distinct "ping".

If you want to buy a used one—you can find old MgBr Ansers on eBay for around 20 or 30. But if you are wanting to buy new and make it your own—don't buy eBay! Ive seen NOS Scottsdale Ansers on there for 300+. Such a rip off.

Buy from Mortons. You get a new model for 109 plus you have easy access to all of the WRX options. Antique finish with sightline is a great combo.

Correct, the 1966 TR has a very very subtle ping to it, even with the slot. Nothing like the MgBr ones from past years. If anything the slot in the 1966 TR influences the feel off the face more than the sound.

Yes exactly. Ive putter with classic Pings (pre 85) and the new 1966 with the TR face and the sound is not the same. Absolutely love the feel of the 1966 TR, but the sound is certainly not the same
