Mizuno JPX900 Tour Iron Pics- In Hand w/ comparison w/ PXG, MP-64, MP-5, iBlade & PSI's

Mizuno mixing it up this time. Throwing us a curveball by adding a serious players club into the JPX line for 2017.

Read the frontpage article here for tech facts... http://www.golfwrx.com/392028/blurred-lines-mizuno-launches-jpx-900-tour-irons/

What are they? They are satin MP-5's that gained 5 pounds (+5% in size). The JPX-900 Tours are small and have minimal offset with a players sole grind.

They look like modern bad asses in the bag. Members were walking up and asking me what and when.

Comparing the new JPX900s to the MP-64's... same length heel to toe but the JPX look smaller. The satin plays with your eyes and give the JPX such a different look than I am used to. See the comparison pics below.

The JPX 900 tours didn't have the same feel as a typical nickel chrome plated Mizuno MP iron. I would say they were a touch more clicky. I get a "thud" when I play a MP iron and that was not what I felt today. After playing the mushy PXG t's for a long time these had a firm report sent back to me. I could tell you the EXACT spot on the face I hit the ball. Couple of grooves low, high, heel or toe and I knew it and liked it. Were they harsh? Not a chance. But they were not muted at all. Solid with a clear report. Felt like a forged blade with a pure solid feel to it. Not muted. Not mushy.

That being said I liked the report I was getting. I demoed the Ping iBlade last week and the 900's felt softer and more solid than the iBlade did. I think the insert on the iBlade added a layer between the player the hit.

The sole grinds are real good on the 900 tours. Good amount of camber front to back and a sharper leading edge. The width is close to the MP-64's but the MP-64 has very little camber and a blunted leading edge. Very different than the JPX Tours. The 900 tours had the same grinds you see in the MP-5s.

Comparing to the MP-5's the JPX Tours are a hair longer heel to toe and the soles a hair wider. But the sole designs are a perfect match.

What many will like with these JPX900 tour irons is the overall shape. The transition from the hozel to the topline is fantastic. Real gentle smooth lines with no quick turns or jogs.

I have had a few range sessions and one round. Rained hard yesterday and they were about to not allow cart off today. Shot a 75 which is a good number being as wet as it is here right now. The thin soles with sharp leading edge will dig but the camber will help. Had to focus and make sure to hit the ball pure and doing that today went well.

The pitching wedge is stout and looks great. Had then shafted in DG300 AMT D2 3-9 and D4 in the PW.

Used the new T7 wedges in satin as well. Cant deny them.

Good review, thanks.

I demo'd the Tour, 900 forged, and the iblade quite a bit yesterday, all with KBS tour except the iblade, modus 105. 7 iron with the iblade, 6 iron with the Mizzys.

The forged were ok, a little loud and Clicky. Was getting about 175 but the dispersion was bad. No thanks.

Tours look great, and i was getting about 175 with these as well. Great feel, and good dispersion. Mis hits seemed to lose about 10-15 yards but was straight.

Iblade felt as good or better than the Tours. I was getting about 173, but these were a 7 iron. Surprised. Very tight dispersion and mishits lost about 5-10 yards. Very awesome club. Looks were about perfect.

I am getting professionally fit next week, and will be getting one of these. If I had to pick today, it's the Iblades. I will report back next week.

Beautiful. These might kick the 64's out of my bag.

They could do that. I think they look better behind the ball as well as in the bag. The satin works in sunny days. I personally like the looks of chrome but laying the club behind the ball in the rough on a sunny day, I will take the satin all day. No glare and a clear definition of the club in the middle of all that noise.

Couldn't agree more with the comparison between the iBlades and the 900 Tour iron. Much better feel at impact. I have yet to feel this soft compressing the CTP at impact ping keeps talking about with the iBlades (S55s feel softer). I also have no doubt the satin finish on the Mizunos won't look as horrible as the satin finish on the iBlades looks like after 2 weeks of use (demo set at dealer) Faces are a mess with scratches from turf and backs are shiny where they touch other irons.

Everything looks like a shovel compared to the MP5!

I don't like the blade length on the tours and it has a little too much roundness in the toe for my tastes...especially compared to the ping.

Thank you very much for the comparison pics.

I agree! I tried the 900 Tours and the iBlade and as sacriligeous as this may sound to everyone out there that are not only forged, but Mizuno forged iron fans, the iBlade felt better to me as well!

I hit both irons with the Modus 105 ( love that shaft )

I don't fully understand why people are so out of sorts that the JPX line received such a playeresque iron. Yes theyve previously delineated each range by player profile, but they've been known to blur those lines in the past in order to suit a particular type of player. I think if one looks at it from an aesthetic standpoint moreso than simply a handicap range, it makes a lot more sense.

People have clamored for satin MP irons for years and haven't really been indulged. I think this is Mizuno bringing an edgier, flashier design to a players iron and categorizing it by looks moreso than player ability.

Surely that'll hurt them for the folks that won't buy anything other than an MP iron, but it may gain them some traction with the better younger golfer that doesn't want the somewhat dated chrome look. A lot of people still buy on looks, and this release brings an aesthetic to the table that simply didn't exist in their lineup before. It doesn't really fit in with JPX or MP.

I didn't care for 900 tours, and not of fan of satin....I think my chrome irons have blinded me 3 times by the sun in my whole golfing career....and I live in 75 deg weather year round....it's not an issue....satin looks worse faster than chrome Although these look almost sandblasted vs satin in person.....idk thought I was gonna really like em and I just didnt....though this was with a 6 iron demo only....my irons are fine at moment I may just wait for MP next year......they certainly did fix the PW from the pictures anyway.....I love Mizuno just not 900 tour.....I blade to me is hideous in every way...

Holy Sh!t they look nice and the wedges too!!!! I like how the wedges look like the irons and not that rounded leading edge they used to have. I can see Tiger picking them up.

I agree it's a weird product line evolution... But who cares.

Seems like they are trying to create the most forgiving blade possible while maintaining the pure look. In the past when Mizuno has used that "power frame" design, it does move the sweet spot slightly more toward the toe and increase MOI.

And they look great at address.

They already did that last September when they released the 5's.
