Sure Set Golf Training Aid

Anyone used this? I like the idea of it after seeing the videos. I get laid off at the top and this seems like a nice tool to get in a better position at the top so I don't have to do as many compensations on the way down.

I just wonder if this is any better or worse than the Power Angle Pro?

Monte has a power angle pro and recommended that I get one when I saw him in May. Not only will it help get you in a better position at the top, but the biggest benefit I got from it is to understand how the correct move down should feel.

I used to have a problem casting and letting my hands get way behind me. The power angle pro was a big contributor in getting me mostly past this flaw in my swing.

I'm happy I got one and it's a great training aid for people that can't play in the winter.

This year I got my handicap down to a 1 however I feel like I'm closer to a 2-3 (playing other courses). I know I have a bad swing and I've learned to play it and make up for it with my short game. I want to work on my swing this winter for 30 minutes a night and I can't swing in my apartment so I am looking for an alternative. I'm looking for something to help with my wrist set and swing plane as well as my downswing. Power Angle Pro is like $40 cheaper too I think

i bought one in may or june from gary wiren's website. i love it. it has helped me get deeper in to my right hip on the backswing. i think it has helped me tighten my misses and given me a few more yards due to a better pivot. i use before every round to get a decent stretch and use it home for 5 or 10 minutes a few days a week. i recommend it!

I just wonder if this is any better or worse than the Power Angle Pro?

Isn't that a low bar for comparison?

Why do you say that?

My ignorance. I generally don't like training aids and when I looked at the power angle pro web page I just didn't see obvious value in it for me. If you have width issues, I can see it helping but how many times are you going to use it? As an individual, I couldn't justify buying it. Now, if I was an instructor that would be different, as I can see it being useful in getting the idea across to a student quickly.

If I do this 11,548 more times, I will be having fun. - Zippy the Pinhead

Any training aid that can assist me in keeping the width in my downswing will be considered. I have a terrible time keeping my arms extended throughout the downswing and contract them and, as a result, re-orient my wrists, at impact, exposing the bounce of the club and causing a terrible thud (on the range mat). It drives me bonkers.

I'm also considering the "smart ball" from Martin Chuck, I find that when I try to keep my forearms together as if to touch a ball I get more solid contact.

Harry Redknapp on signing good-looking Portuguese winger Dani, he told reporters:

"My missus fancies him. Even I don't know whether to play him or f**k him."

I have the smart ball, it is great. But a nerf ball or a big sponge you use for washing a car would work just as well.

Thanks, yeah, I was looking around the house for something about the right size, I also have a little band with two armholes that came in a Callaway training kit I got as a gift. I'll try that as well.

Regardless, it's a feeling I've GOT to get ingrained in my psyche, maybe a thousand slow repetitions in the backyard each night will do it? :)

I'm not a fan of bands or belts. I like a ball or a sponge because it causes me to actively keep my arms together. Rather than have something do it for me. I need something that causes me to do something, not vice versa.

I went to see iteach in Jacksonville 3 years ago, and he told me to get a small nerf ball to put between my forearm. It really is a big help for me. But I have to constantly work on it. 3 years later, and it leaves my swing quickly without constant attention.

Reviving an old thread as I recently picked up a Sure-Set on the cheap and am pretty impressed thus far. Within a few uses, it's helped me pick up on some timing and sequencing issues in my backswing, which I knew were there, but had trouble feeling.

After firing up Mirror Vision, and using the sure-set to sync my shoulders and hips a bit better, I was SHOCKED at how well I was striking the ball.

Really, really interesting thus far. Looking forward to some more reps and seeing if the results are repeatable.

I know that iTeach uses/used the power angle in his instruction where required. It is currently on special for $49.95 until 1/14 from their site. I ordered one to help me feel the transition and to cure OTT. Cure? Yea, right, but I need the right feel. Anyway, I'm going to give this a go. I have the Smart Ball but found that I tend to create slack in the lanyard on the take away -- loss of width.

I have had only a negative experience with this practice aid. Strange as it might seem, I can’t establish the right combination of angle and length to make it feel comfortable. Length isn’t the problem but angle is regularlated by a toothed gear, the precession of the teeth is too course for me to get the correct angle.

The second major flaw is it is extremely easy to come out of posture when trying to achieve this perfect backswing, there is a warning about this in one of the videos. The advice above to use an iphone or mirror is spot on.

I know there was a relationship between the designer Dan Frost and Explanar designer Luther Blacklock. I have an explanar so perhaps sure-set was not going to provide a significant change in backswing in my case.

I was attracted by the promise of better ground force and more power, needless to say the sure-set failed to deliver.

I'd agree with device setup being more difficult than anticipated. I'm still completely unsure if I have the right length / angle as it definitely limits available hand positions and angles.

That said, again, the big gain thus far for me was on timing and wrist cake. I haven't got a real range session or round in since receiving the device, but hitting balls in the garage - contact has been promising.
