Always wanted a Napa style putter and finally managed to pick one up. Got an American Classic from 2005.

Needs a bit of TLC but there are no major dings or rust, just some blemishes that I'm going to sand out. Plan out on tidying it up, might torch it and going to add a new grip to it. Any suggestions welcome

Pulled the trigger on a 460CC M1 in 9.5*. Gone very very left field with shaft choice - Fujikura SIX XLR8 in X flex, significantly lighter than my current shaft but feel like I'm leaving some yards on the table so going to give it a try. Should be here on Weds/Thurs so will report back and tidy this thread up when it arrives :taunt:

 

Also thinking about what to do with my American Classic, very pleasantly surprised with how I'm putting with and a playing partner (who's a good friend) said that the patina on it was actually making him angry whenever I made a putt, he was like "How come you can putt with that old thing!?". Might just leave it looking like a bit of a wreck for a while!

Got a fair few rounds with M1 in now and really starting to like it - struggling to turn it over into a draw but I'm sure it'll come!

Also got a new stand bag, Titleist 4up - impressed with it so far.

 

Snook a few holes in after work tonight, course is shaping up nice - had our pro-am last week and it always looks good for that, looking forward to a game this weekend!

Also purchased my first set of Scotty headcovers - managed to pick up some flower camo's. I have a sneaky feeling that this could become a mild (or severe) addiction. I'm looking for some stuff to fit my X7m so if anyone has some for sale (would love the greatest hits cover) then shoot me a PM.

Playing some good golf from tee to green at the minute but really struggling to get anything going on the greens. Shot a pretty reasonable 74 at the weekend and it honestly felt like the worst score I coulda posted. I had 33 putts, biggest thing I holed was probably a 6 footer for par on 17th, not a single birdie all day long. Had several chances inside of 10 foot but not a thing droppoed (only 1 or 2 close).

 

Have been putting with my X7m DB, got a 36 hole comp on Friday so need to get something going for that. I have a AOP Newport on the way so likely that I'll use either that or my American Classic. Hopefully a more classic head shape will help me out, finding that I'm concentrating so much on the address position and stroke with the X7m, as a result I'm almost forgetting about trying to get the ball in the hole.

Currently sat on a train on the way up to Troon for the Open.

Meeting 7 other guys up the and playing Prestwick St Nicholas this afternoon (weather permitting). We've then got weekend tickets for Troon. I've never been to a live golf event of this size/scale before so rally looking forward to it but in a strange way think I'll miss the TV coverage as the Open is my 2nd favourite tournament to watch (Masters first).

Looking forward to the merchandise tents and equipment stalls etc. and hoping to somehow snag a TM leather open cover (aware that this may be almost impossible though).

4 hours of the journey to go, good job I can watch some golf on the iPad.....

Thanks a lot, I'm pleasantly surprised by the XLR8 SIX shaft, it was just a bit of an experiment but it worked out, here's a link to the specs, but the short version is X flex, 68 grams.

2 nice parcels turned up today - a set of Cinco covers and a 72 and sunny one too. Really happy with them, will be taking them out for a spin at the weekend :)

It certainly is, looking forward to seeing what the Ryder Cup release entails. I'm still a bit precious about the cinco covers - trying my best not to use them when it rains, often a difficult thing to predict in the UK!

Did you see Manchester last night on the news.....I've never seen anything like it! My wife gave up and left her car.....unfortunately muggins had to go and get it! I think my course was only good for ducks yesterday

Yeah it's certainly got character. I like it off the tee but it's got quite a deep face so don't use it too much off the deck. I'm definitely the source of the problem tho - I'm 6ft 5" with a fairly steep swing..

Played 9 holes with my new M2 last night - admittedly it was the first time I've played for a couple of weeks so I was a little rusty to say the least. The course is also verrrrry wet meaning little to no roll.

 

First impressions as follows:

• Looks - Very similar to the '16 M line. It appears to be a bit bigger though, not sure if this is down to the "flatter" rear of the club. I've never been a huge fan of coloured golf clubs but the white on the crown has actually grown on me and I now really like the look of the M2.
  
• Sound / feel - Sound is a lot louder than my '16 M1, it's not too loud or tinny but certainly has a higher pitch to it, this isn't a big issue for me as long as the driver performs!
  
• Performance - Difficult to tell at this stage but I liked what I saw to start with. My miss last night was a fraction low and to the heel and the m2 coped pretty well with it, both times the ball ended up in a very playable spot at a reasonable distance. I've come to the conclusion now that good for good a lot of modern drivers can be setup so you achieve pretty much identical results. For me, the advantages of the new(er) tech are much more obvious on mishits.
  

I'm playing a full round at the weekend so looking forward to that.

 

As a side note, the shaft feels very stable. I really went after a couple last night and was probably (definitely) a bit too quick at the top but it didn't bring wild left into play - always a good thing!

 

I have a '16 M1 3 wood HL with a Kai'li shaft on the way so will see how that performs a the weekend. As I've said before, the RBZ is great off the tee but I really struggle from lies that are anything less than perfects on the fairway - hoping the 16.5* and shallower face will help with that.
