New Macgregor DCT Putter

I called Macgregor today to ask about this one and the Rep I talked with claimed to know nothing about this putter, so your guess is as good as mine. If this putter hits the shelves I'm sure it will have the Grace name on it since Macgregor retained all rights to the Bobby Grace name.

How long did they retain the rights for his name?

I'm not sure. I found it real intresting that this putter picks up a gold award from Golf Digest and the people at Macregor had no idea what I was talking about.

Wanted to mention that since Bobby Grace resigned from MacGregor, any putter they put out with his trademarked "name" on them will be crap IMHO. Like this one. I just looks so northwestern-like. Just my opinion, and I hope I'm wrong but I guess MacGregor putters are going the way of Dunlop and Maxfli....

MacGregor Golf retains ownership of all trademarks and other rights associated with Bobby Grace Putters and the name Bobby Grace.

MacGregor will continue to further expand its putter line featuring the category leading DCT technology and feature it in an expanded marketing initiative starting in the Fall of 2008.

....blue light specials.

Grace’s resignation now leads to speculation over those future endeavours. Possible suitors who might line up to acquire his services: Nike Golf, TaylorMade-adidas Golf and Bridgestone Golf.

Peace.

This is nothing new. IMO the technology behind the insert is the most important part, so regardless if Bobby Grace is designing the putters or not they will still perform better than any putter with a comparable insert.

But the big questions, regardless, my point being by posting the old news is will they sell and will people give a drop about MacGregor non Grace DCT putters? I don't think so especially if people know(if for instance he goes to Nike) that he's designing fresh putters. Hell if he decides to go to another major company and design putters for them, they can and will use his name in some form.....Grace Putters, or the (hypothetical) Nike BG#1 mid mallet? who knows....but it'll happen I'm sure.

I really dont think you will see the Bobby Grace name on any other putter but a Macgregor for quite a while since they own all patents, trademarks, and the name Bobby Grace. Also, Grace left Macgregor so he could attend to some personal issues and stated that he had no plans to return to the business for sometime. Will they sell? I dont know, but at the same time they never sold when BG was the man behind the designs. I have a Sunset DCT and it is a great product. I tried the a lot of the "soft" insert putters and they just did not work for me, but the DCT insert was by far the best one I tried.

I see your point. Didn't know he "left for personal issues..." etc. It's sad really, same thing has happened to a lot of excellent puttermakers....Tad Moore being a big example. He's finally setting up shop in Selma, Alabama(about 2 hours from me) to start hopefully a new line of milled putters.

Time will definately tell eh.

Peace.
