Looks like Ryo Ishikawa is testing a new Odyssey putter.

 

Yes, he's alive and back playing on the Japanese pro tour since losing his PGA Tour playing privileges.

 

 

 

Looks like another Japan only Odyssey release is set for a limited release starting September 24.

 

The link above shows four models, the #7, 2M (pictures below), a #2 blade and a mallet #6M.

 

Odyssey is calling it the DYPE due to the stamps on the bottom of the putter (Dollar, Yen, Pound, Euro).

 

MSRP is 55,000 yen or about $540 at the present yen/dollar rate($1=102yen).

Anything special about the insert? I know the Japanese market will pay for clubs at prices that'll make US buyers have a heart attack so I am totally not surprised by the price. The original Protype ix was up there around $500 when it was first released.

From what I hear he hasn't lost his status on the PGA. He was injured and he just started to play in Japan. He has been fighting some back issues for the past few years and I guess shutting it down for few months was a good idea.

 

On his second tournament back, he won. I guess the jpga isn't as competitive or maybe he is finally back to 100%.

 

Im hearing that he will be back to the PGA when the wrap around season starts on medical exemption. He's probably using the Jpga as a warmup so he doesn't waste starts when he comes back.

Yes, I thought he had a medical exemption since getting injured at Torrey. Either way, hope to see him back on the PGA Tour, and hopefully he'll start doing better too.

Wow... start to look through the Odyssey JP website and there is a new line that is obviously directly related to Toulon technology. Looks like its called "Stroke Lab". Just thought it was cool to see the influence of Toulon so quickly at Odyssey. Awesome.

You're right. He is out on a medical exemption and will be back in the 2017 season. I just assumed since he was missing cuts and was so low on the money list/ogwr he ran out of options and went back to the JPGA tour. Thanks for clearing that one up.

 

I wonder how many people say "I'd never pay $540 for a putter" spend way, way more than that on multiple putters per year.

 

So many people wouldn't think twice about dropping $540 if it was a different brand, but Odyssey has locked itself into a certain price point in the US. No wonder why they are trying to cash in by releasing so many Japan only models. Street prices will for sure be lower and you can probably pick one up used for less than half of that by this time next year.

So I picked one up today and pictures cannot speak details. From the headcover to the red lines on the top....perfect! You can even see that the red lines have odyssey laser engraves towards the back.

The shape and offset is great, but I can't stand most inserts. Prefer milled carbon steel faces.
