Warrick's WITB - Titleist takeover?

Recommended Posts

I tried the D+70 in my 815 DBD, and yes it is very stable, but a bit boardy for me in comparison to the LZ, plus with the LZ, was able to go up a flex which allowed for a heavier shaft. The LZ70 is so freakin smooth.

I did like it much better in the 3 wood, but it was beat out by the old school black tie.

Well then, you are a better stick than i am, no doubt. I actually feel like I am playing clubs over my head, but my scores if anything have gone down. I probably have almost 50% of my rounds in the 70's this year.

Would love to see your sticks. Good luck in your event, knock the flags down.

  • 4 months later...

Love everything in the bag, and even shot my PB, even par 71 on Sunday, but alas I am a ho, and had a pile in PP, so trying some things for fun.

JPX 900 Tour irons, new shafts, trying PX LZ 6.5 to see if I can move from 130 Ctaper

T7 Wedges - first set of forged wedges, trying to move from a 50-54-58 to a 52-58 setup. They overlap, and I find myself pondering which wedge to use at times.

816 DBD - PX LZ and Oban Hashimoto - Love the SZ, and it won't be going anywhere, but my misses from center are quite consistent when I do, and seem to be a touch high and towards the heel. I have the gravity core, up in the heel, and added an 8gr weight in the back in exchange for the 3g to add a little heft.

I have 4 -6 rounds coming up thursday-sunday, driver testing all weekend, irons and wedges will get worked in for Saturday and Sunday.

Pics to come of the new stuff on Friday.

Interested for your opinion on the JPX 900 Tours. I hit them indoors at golfsmith the other day and surprisingly didn't like them. I hit the MP5's and JPX 900 Forged and liked them much more than the Tours. Maybe it was an off day, but they didn't do it for me.

Tours and T7's scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

I quite enjoyed the 816 DBD today, had the core up in the heel, paired with PX LZ 70

I may play it with the new Oban Hashimoto tomorrow.

Played 36 today (75-77), 816 DBD with Oban Hashimoto has the spot for now, hit it really good today, will stay in for now.

I came around the corner and saw a gorgeous blue/white Mizuno box on the porch. 900 Tours and T7's unwrapped and in the bag for tomorrow morning. OMG, they are so freakin pretty. I don't even want to hit the wedges they look so good.

I will get some pics later, stoked for tomorrow.

Looking good, are those a smooth satin or more like a matte? Also, I picked up a BB 816 16* myself and it has the potential to be a favorite.

was off a bit today.

Everything is really nice, feels great, nice ball flight with the shafts, wedges are softer than my MD3's for sure, all was fine with the 6.5's all the way through, even with a few short flop type shots. They actually spin more than any wedge I have hit, checked up short on me a few times.

One issue, think I may spin it too much with these shafts. I don't normally back up 7 iron shots, and a few spots seemed about a half club short. There was fog and some light mist early, so the ball was not traveling full it did not seem. I was off a bit today with the ball striking in general.

It is supposed to be identical tomorrow, so not sure if I put the 5's back in to compare what I saw today, or go another round. I am not 100% sure I can work the 52-58 gap either.

The other problem, and I knew this going in, they are not MP5's.

Now to keep and see if they can take the bag spot, or cut and run after 18 ( can't even tell they were hit). I am not sure I can cut and run yet, so gorgeous and feel exceptional.

78 with a double on 1, and bogey on 16-18

just put on the BST, shaft is just wrong, almost went C-Taper, damn it....

I may look for some shafts, had a member PM and offer to rebuild for next to nothing.

I am not overly optimistic about selling, not a huge audience.

I took the 5's back out today with 130X, life was good again.

I don't know what I will do when I can't handle em anymore. I need to strengthen up the hands. wrists, arms over the winter a bit more to keep up.

Sold the 900 Tour/T7 set this morning, almost got out in a clean wash. I need to stick with my iron/shaft combo, been striking it great all summer, will play these til I can't handle the shafts anymore.

I absolutely loved the wedges, so re-ordered a full 50-54-58 T7 set with C-Taper 130X SSx1, as the 2 wedge system was not working, and I was carrying 13 clubs anyway.

Still messing with the driver a bit, but 816 DBD has a slight lead. I did find something over the weekend with my set up, so will run the SZ in both shafts again next weekend to see if it carries over.

When you get used to Ctapers, it is a challenge to play anything else. Everything else either doesn't feel as good or it spins too much or it goes too high etc.. Nothing seems to produce the same or similar ball flight for me. I keep trying other shafts, but keep coming back to the Cts.

Yeah, just bought these on a whim. I loved the LZ driver shaft, and was hoping the iron shafts would work the same for me. I don't have much for fitters locally here, and I just don't swing the same on a simulator indoors.

The 130X just work for whatever reason, not sure why, so said why not on the new wedge set.

To be honest, I got a deal on the 900 Tour/T7's i sold, so got out in a wash which was nice. They were just gorgeous, but they are not MP5's.

The T7's have that "it" factor for me so far, never seen a better looking wedge behind the ball, can't wait to get new 3 wedge set in play with C-taper's.

I will be shocked if I don't order a 9-P again in the 900 Tour this winter with the 130X to try again. I have a $300 GC coming from work for doing health screening, so will be "free" in my eyes.

Mizuno did the 9-P RIGHT in this set, amazing looking, more compact.

I don't know how to explain it, but they seemed to be. I don't see how a 6.5 is to weak for me. I am about the size of an average LPGA Tour player, then again the 130X should not work for me, but results are all that matters.

For what its worth, i went from c-taper 130x (4years with them) to the px LZ 6.5 3 weeks ago and im loving them. I havent lost any distance and they feel 1,000 times better and easier to swing. I havent played in much wind yet so cant comment on that. I will say nothing touches a well struck c-taper in the wind. I have noticed the LZ spin a touch more when they land, 9i spins back about 3 feet where my CT130x never did anything except hit and stick. Still nothing like X100 where i can spin a 9i back 25 feet.

Most importantly though the LZ do not want to go hard left. They really fight a hard hook even when i try, they just go up and draw but never the crazy left miss i could hit with C-tapers occasionally.

Crazy! I remember reading your post in the LZ thread, part of what sold me on it being a good switch. On course results are telling me "no".

I may just spin the ball a little too much to begin with, may be why these work for me, and low spin driver heads.

Well, pretty much finished up.

The 900 Tour experiment was short lived. What it told me? The MP5's may be the the ultimate iron, not sure what I am looking for, I will not find anything that exceeds the looks, playability, and feel. I am stuck with 130X for now, oh well.

The SubZero and Oban Hashimoto combo is sublime, found something in my setup while hitting the 816 DBD, so put the SZ back in play yesterday for 36 holes, and it is not coming back out.

On the T7's, played the original ones I had, and loved them, but only got a 2 wedge set, and they matched the 900 Tour's, so dumped all and have the T7's with 130X getting delivered Tuesday, will go right in. I have been playing the MD3's, and still love em, but the Mizuno's look and feel better.

Not much else to do, 3w and hybrids are going nowhere, have brand new backup's for both. I sent my back up Tank #7 to Continental for a little re-do, not a fan of the silver on the "Works". I really like the 2016 TPX ball also, stocked for next season.

I never tried Ctapers in wedges, but i can tell you that PX 6.0 are extremely good in wedges. I've tried quite a few wedge shafts and PX just work really well for me.
