Ping Ally 2 Tour - tungsten weights
A friend of mine got this putter and was asking if I knew anything. I do know it's not a standard issue Ping Ally 2 because of the tungsten weights in the heel and toe, and the serial number, and lack of lie angle dot on the rear. He called Ping to ask them about it, and the Ping rep got all irritated and asked where he got the putter, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Does anyone know about Ping Tour issue putters, or this one specifically?

Thanks in advance.

I see that Beruo had the same weights installed, but what gives with the serial number on the Ally 2 in my pictures? From what my friend told me, the person he talked to at Ping was very upset and asked him "where did you get this putter?" The person at Ping wouldn't give him any info, which I find very interesting.

Obviously the serial number means something.

Also, Beruo's putter has the lie angle code dot on the rear of the putter. The one in my picture doesn't have that dot.

If it were just a WRX customization of a retail putter, would they put a serial number on it?

I put this out there because I didn't see anything similar anywhere, and because of the reaction the guy at Ping had when my friend called about the putter.

Inquiring minds would like to know...

Edit: After reading Beruo's post, it's pretty obvious that this Ally 2 is different from a WRX customized putter. The serial number alone is a dead giveaway, and explains why the person at Ping was so irritated. Here's a link to a completed eBay auction referenced in Beruo's post. He says the putter here is definitely tour issue.

Yeah, my bad.....I completely ignored the part about you talking to Ping. Had I been paying attention to your post, I would agree. If they ever react that way, it's definitely something they don't want you to have :P

If you want, PM me the serial number and I'll look it up in the database to see what comes up :shout:

What's the serial? I'll call tomorrow from the shop and ask. I'll tell them someone brought one in for a trade in.

I remember seeing here on the forums that tour issue Ping gear is still property of Ping and that the player is just using it. This, like you said, could explain Ping getting kind of pissy about you inquiring.

i can tell you ping will be pissed you got this putter. this is not a wrx special this is a tour dept special. i can tell b/c of the serial number it was made for a pro. the tour putters have a large font serial and if i had to bet i would say the serial # started w/ JW. this is the initials of the guy who makes the majority of the special ping tour putters. great guy and a master putter maker. best thing to do is just play it b/c ping probably will not tell you who it was made for and they may take action against the pro it was made for, depending on their relationshlp and his status. anyway, a sweet putter and much rarer than any wrx job.

It does have a "JW" serial number. As far as Ping being pissed, they should be pissed at the Tour player who unloaded the putter, not the person who has it now. Again, it's not my putter - I'm just inquiring for a friend who doesn't participate on golf boards, but knew this wasn't an ordinary Ping putter.

Thanks for the responses.

sorry if i confused you. they would be pissed that you got the putter b/c they would be pissed a player got rid of it or sold it. they do not like their tour stuff getting out.

however tell your buddy not to ever send it to ping to get it refinished or worked on b/c i can almost guarantee they would keep it and try to make up for with something else.

this is a sweet putter and rarer than pretty much any tour cameron out there

Not much that I can add here. As everyone's pointed out, this is a very tour putter. One thing I noticed is that the hosel location on this is custom as well. I can't see any weld marks which is either telling of the level of workmanship in their tour department or, equally likely, that the wax mold that this was made from was altered--either way, looks really nice. Here's the original:

Do not send it back to Ping ever unless you want to lose it. They consider it their property on loan to the Tour player it was built for and will confiscate it and give you nothing. I had a Ping Tour driver once that needed a reshaft and the Ping customer service guy told me not to send it back or all the above would happen. I bought it off a Tour player but not the one it was made for. I sold it as it was..

  • 1 year later...

Ive just got hold of an anser with the serial number JW01L227 its a mgbr anser 33.5inches long. I paid £37 for it inc P+P from the bay. The pro who had this ave it away as a prize at some golf club in the UK and they wanted rid of it so i bought it!! is mine just as rare, valuable?? Also, should I refinish it or leave it alone?? it will need a new shaft anyway in a few years??
