Skaffa,

Let me know if you want to sale!!!!!

:D

Tell you what, let me get some pictures up first...and if you are really interested, we can chat. I feel bad for the Prototype as it gets a lot less bag time. I just prefer the hard lines/edges of the Devon ETBW.

I didn't get a chance last night, but I'll try to post some pics tonight.

Compare to Whitlam putters, Gauge Design putters are more expensive. They are using same website, so it looks like different products line from same company. How do you compare them? does higher price means more quality (materials, craftmanship...etc)?

They are essentially the same putter. One is branded Gauge Design and is distributed more thoroughly in the Asian market. There is a long history behind partnership of Whitlam and Gauge Design which I won't go into. Everything I've read and heard is that those putters with similar design are the same materials and craftsmanship.

I have seen some Gauge Design putters with inserts and I don't believe there has ever been any Whitlam putters with the same type of inserts, but that is the exception.

Higher prices on putter and other clubs come from different reasons. Obviously some of the big names have high prices just because they are big names and the have to pay the big names to use them, i.e. major OEMs. So a majority of your cost goes to pay so and so to use the putter. You are paying to say that I use the same putter as "insert big name here." Another reason for high prices on putters is image. If a start up designer charged you $75 instead of $400 for putter then you would get in your mind that it is a cheap putter even though nothing at all has changed in the technology or quality. Also the designer would have trouble keeping up with demand so to keep his overhead cheap, be able to keep up with demand, and to create a quality image they have to charge a great deal of money. The last reason (that i can think of) for high putter prices is due to technological advances in materials and methods that no others before them have used. It could be a special metal, forging process, insert, some kind of high end material, or some kind of technology or design that no one has done before. Like the high end matrix shafts have Zylon in them which causes the pries to be higher. And some times it is a combination of several of those reasons and maybe some others.

"David Whitlam is the Craftsman behind Gauge Design and has made every putter from the company's inception."

"Gauge Design founder David Whitlam has over 15 years experience in the golf industry. Growing up in Edmonton, Canada, David picked up the game of golf at the age of 8, when his father purchased him his first set of clubs. It wasn't long before David made his way on to the driving range and local golf courses to practice and hone his skills.

David, at the age of 15, found himself working in one of the Edmonton's golf discount stores, where he quickly realized he had the keen ability to fit the customer's golfing wants and needs. In 1987, David graduated the San Diego Golf Academy, and later went on to graduate from California State University - San Marcos, with a degree in business.

David's long-term goal is to make Gauge Design one of the few truly innovative putter companies in the world. Gauge Design is already making a substantial impact on the Japanese PGA Tour."

Going on this: Dave Whiltam designed both Gauge and Whiltam putters so if you believe in the philosophy of what is newer is better then the new Whitlam line is better. The prices on Gague Design and Whitlam Golf putters are pretty much the same. Anyone I have talked to that has used both lines thinks so or that the Whiltams are much better but never the other way around. I have heard nothing but good things out of the people that have them. A gentleman I give lessons to just got one yesterday in fact. But I have putted with both the EBTW and the SPI-3 and both have exceptionaly feel and very soft edges to look at. I just seems that now Whitlam is focusing more on putters that you will have more options to choose from and better quality due to more focus. Like the SPI3 is great. It comes with 3 sole plates so you can change the weight of the putter for your personal feel/swingweight/speed of greens that day. The plate comes off and attachs flush to the rest of the putter. They are truly a work of art to look at and putt with.

jphilbeck, Skaffa77: Thank you for your inputs and insight informations!! Your informations are very helpful to me.

I am using a Scotty Cameron STUDIO STAINLESS now. Think about to get a Bettinardi , Byron Morgan or C&L for comparison. I just can't stop thinking that there maybe a better one out there for me.... :russian_roulette:

Now I feel I should add Whitlam on my list now.

I used to own a Studio Stainless (and a variety of other Camerons), but I never cared for the feel that putter. Not sure why, but it just wasn't my preference. I do (and have owned) several Bettinardis and they are fantastic putters. You would not be disappointed. I've always wanted to try a Byron Morgan (006 with sound slot, site dot and mystic pearl finish), but haven't had a chance. You always hear good things about their putters. For those who own C&L, they love them as well...the only complaint I've ever heard is that they only have one design so some people feel it's a bit limited.

Whitlams...I own 2 and the Devon ETBW is probably in my top 3 putters that I own. Just fantastic...it's like the go-to putter when I have to pick one. It's not the most expensive, but it's right up there with my best.
