Average 150 Club?

Recommended Posts

I would pull a 9 iron from 150 in perfect conditions (no wind) at my elevation (700 feet) in the summer months. That would be a very well struck, stock 9 iron. I can step on a 9 and get about 155 out of it, but consistency in dispersion drops a good bit.

In true golfwrx fashion... I'd pull my titleist bullseye putter... 3 degrees of loft... choke down on it.... hit a cut with just enough juice to bring it back 9 feet to spot it 150 yards.

Hah! You'd do this once. The Bullseye is so soft, it would be bent all the way back (90 degrees) at the neck. I kind of wish I didn't know this first hand:)

For me, a stock swing with my 8 iron is a comfortable 150. If I step on the gas, I can power a 9 iron there, or if I dial it down, it can be a 7 iron. If I need to punch under the wind, it's typically a 6 iron shot.

My 8 iron is standard 39* Titleist MB loft.

I am inbetween clubs. 9 (40deg) iron goes 145-147 and 8 (35deg) iron goes 155-157. So I guess a soft 8?

Good gob, if some of you guys consider yourself average Joe's I shouldn't even be on here.

I'm currently trying to cure my flipping, so my 150 club is a 32* 7i for now.

Considering the average drive is approximately 205 yards, the distances you are seeing here are well above the norm. A 150 yard club, extrapolating from the aforementioned, is a 5-iron for the average player.

One important fact everyone is leaving out is altitude changes. He is in Boise Idaho according to his info.

With me it is a 6 iron at sea level of course I am 60 years old hitting a 1980 Macgregor blade iron.

In the case of the OP IMHO not too bad considering how long he has been playing

Any posts in regards to yardages or distances, I always include the elevation.

At just under 4,000' of elevation, Amp Cell Pro, Project X 6.0, 150 is just a little off a nine iron.

I figure at sea level it would likely be a stock eight (I haven't played much at sea level so that's mostly speculation).

5'8" 145lbs 34

Sea level

everyday straight flat, no wind shot, 8 iron, 149 yards carry, +/-3 yards

If I had 150 carry and flat.... it would be a well struck 8iron...without holding back

If my life was hanging in the balance for 150carry.... yeah 7 iron....

down wind, downhill, god willing, 9iron....and then I would usually miss the green anyway and chip wishing I didnt try and just used the 8iron in the first place.....

My 150 yd club is my 52* SM4 Vokey wedge with a smooth swing that's with no wind of course.

And about 4 grooves low?

Well, when the ball lands its usually 1/2 buried in the green. But I am no Average Joe, i just like posting here because there is not alot of correspondence in the LD lab. One of these days, when i get older i will have a low swing speed like you guys.

That makes sense lol. A 52* wedge from 150 would have a ton of spin on it and hop out of its pitch mark regardless of how wet/Soft the greens are. You're right, you're no average joe.

Next time I play I will take some pictures of the craters I leave in the greens, lol. Yes, your correct sometimes they barely hop out. I dont use prov1x anymore due to excessive spin. NXT Tour and E6 dont spin as much, lol!

Here is a picture from Sunday, 146yd par 3 pin high. I hit a Callaway Chrome soft just for you!
