I loved the sound as well. What a lot of people are going to find crazy is that the Low Spin Model is more forgiving than the Regular Model.

Really? With the heavier weight in the back, I'm guessing?

What?! Come on man!

Reading all of the comments from the Callaway Golfwrx 8 are making me look forward to what the "driver that cannot be named" can do. I am hitting the BB Fusion so well, it will be interesting to compare them.

It is also nice to see those of you the went are not having to deal with all of the negative comments and attacks that those of us that went to the TaylorMade RSi irons introduction had to deal with. Callaway went all out and really treated you like royalty. It sounds like a experience you will never forget.

I think the thing I was most surprised about was the sound of the New 2017 Driver. It reminds me of the last Callaway club I had in the bag, the Razr Hawk Tour. It is muted but solid. I think you can hear it in the videos posted; it is an addicting sound off the face.

That's fantastic because I still have my RAZR Hawk Proto and it sounds awesome!

First and foremost I have to send out a huge thanks to Callaway and GolfWRX for providing this opportunity.

...

...

...

My signature now contains all clubs I was fitted for at the ECPC.

Sounds like the opportunity to be fit by master fitters was the take away here. Similar to what peter finch said about the new M1. Better fitting, better results. Well done!!

New Bag in the making...

So let me get this straight.

Qmany, you've been playing for only 6 years and you went out on Torrey South first time and shot 70 with clubs you've never played with outside of the fitting? Damn.

I had expertly fit clubs, a great caddie, adrenaline, and a lot of aiming fluid. It was the perfect recipe.

The scary thing is, it could have been really low! Birdie putts missed:

  • 15 feet on 1
  • 15 feet on 2
  • 10 feet on 5
  • 3-putt par on 6
  • 15 feet on 7
  • 15 feet on 10
  • 25 feet on 11
  • 6 feet for Par on 12
  • 10 feet on 13
  • 25 feet on 14
  • 3-putt par on 18

:censored2:

Not the right putter? Maybe you need to hit it closer to the hole. ;) great round!

Nah! You should blame it on the caddie not giving the right read of the green.

They spent a good 5-10 minutes on this in our tech class. They were very happy because they thought in the past they could never offer a lower spin head to a higher index who might need it, simply because they were usually harder to hit

I have the SZ and can say it is actually pretty forgiving, even though my spin numbers are super low (2000rpm on many hits)

It's incredible that Callaway gave some WRX'ers a once in a lifetime chance to experience something like this, I'm insanely jealous! I loved following along with this thread and seeing your guys' excitement. Thanks for all the reviews and pictures as well, great stuff.

With all of that being said, I'm pretty disappointed that no one did this during their interview. :glare:

Thanks for the reports! Looking forward to Q's honeymoon review and numbers, Jeff - eat some sandwiches and make me feel less out of shape, and it looks like Sean got that camera thing figured out 'cause he had me thinking . . . http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/kannon-camera/n9098?snl=1

By the way, I saw the bags but no one has shown a picture of the Callaway bowling balls - secret 2017 design?

so the putter fitting didn't didn't help. Lol

:cheesy:

It started to pay off towards the end with great rolls on 15-16-17. 18 was just adrenaline. I had a hard time reading the greens, they were a little grainy and kept going towards something they called "Big Blue."

Very hard to trust a break that you know you don't see but Grant is telling you it breaks to the ocean right?

When I was lucky enough to play there a few years ago I had a short putt for par on 3 (I really wanted) and I swear it broke toward the ocean and what appeared to be uphill - which is not what I saw. Bogey, but fun to talk about after the round. Of course, if I'd wanted the birdie putt a little more maybe I wouldn't have had the three footer!

Lastly me. This was one of only 3 fairways I missed that day. One of my best driving accuracy days this year, and on a track that needs it.

https://vimeo.com/195870257

Did that ball ever stop climbing? Impressive!

I do hit a pretty high ball. The new driver is so good.

I'll have my write up done by the end of the weekend. Sorry I'm lagging.

After we decided on the right shaft I was getting 4-8 yards more carry and the same gain in total distance. This doesn't sound like much as there were others who had much more impressive gains. But as Gerritt said, my gamer was already a really good fit for me, and to get an extra 4-8 yards of carry was impressive.

Which shaft did you end up with?

Diamana Blueboard 60X, but here's the kicker.......

That night at dinner I was talking with Nate about our fitting and the subsequent builds by the tour department. He informed me that they didn't want to put a plain-old BB in my new driver because they found a Diamana B-Series Japan Only 60X in their shaft collection and installed it instead of the standard BB.

What a treat! Its an awesome looking shaft!

Had a similar experience with Callaway customer service quite a while ago (late in 2005 if memory serves correctly). Had found a FT-3 Tour (pretty sure that was the model) new in the pro shop at Barksdale AFB for a steal of a price. After playing a couple rounds it was obvious that the shaft was a little too light and soft, so called the company to see if I could send it in for a re-shaft. I explain the situation to the rep and it went something like this:

Rep: So something stiffer and heavier...how about a Speeder 757X?

Me: Sure, how much to make that happen?

Rep: You cover the shipping back to us, and we'll make it happen.

Me: Wow...uh...OK, you sure?

Rep: Absolutely.

After some time in the wilderness before Brewer took over, the Callaway product is finally an equal to what has always been outstanding customer support.

Same thing here. Cracked an optiforce 440 head and I had a speeder 757x in it. The CS rep told me that they didn't have that shaft as a stock option, but it was on their upgrade list, so I could choose anything I wanted on their list for a shaft, and that since they didn't stock the optiforce head anymore, I would have to choose one of the current model heads. I literally told the lady I felt like I was doing something wrong, and she just said that they were more than happy to provide new equipment for customers who have any issues with their products.

Thinking about that, and this thread, it really makes Callaway stand out as a company that cares about their customers, and they must care about their employees as well, because the few times I've had interactions with them, they have been nothing short of incredible people.

Sean,

Very informative review - thanks for the thoughtful write-up!

What are the Diamana 40 and Diamana 50 shafts you have in your bag? I've played the original Diamana Blueboard, the S+ 60, and the new S+ Limited Edition 60. How does the Diamana 40 compare?

Thanks SDL!

I have always liked Diamana products and I really, really like the Diamana 40. I have played the 60. What I like about the 40 is that it is light and is a solid shaft, i.e., it's not whippy at all, yet helps get those fairway woods airborne. To me it is just a lighter version of the 60, but that is just my take on it.

I'm leaving on my honeymoon early Saturday morning, so I'm going to dedicate some time today and tomorrow to getting a comprehensive trip recap finished.

But if any of you have questions, please let us know. There was a lot of information to digest, and I'm sure it will be hard to remember and include everything in our recaps.

Have a great honeymoon Q!

You bringing your clubs? lol

Sean, I know I read that you were fit into irons that are +2" in length? As a tall guy with over length as well, I'm curious, what length driver were you fit into. I'm back and forth whether longer or shorten benefits me and think I strike better at 45.5" or longer. What did they do for you? Thanks

Roadking, all of my clubs were extended: irons/wedges +2, hybrid +1, fairway wood +0.5. Nick felt 45.5 was good for me, he didn't want to go any shorter than that.

I just did everything he said/suggested, which prompted him to say I was easy to work with. lol

Thanks. And for the record, how tall are you. I am 6'5 and shortened to a 45" after playing 45.75" G30. Played 45" all year and felt like I strike the center less at 45". I am doing a fitting Next month so I will have an experienced fitter at MoG, but you went through the "Tour Fitting" and just curious as to their insight.

With my fitter we talked mostly about launch and feel when it came to shaft. Both with irons and woods. Did not really look at side to side as I felt my swing would impact that over 10 hits more than shaft. But that's just me

I am 6'5" as well...6'6" in shoes, however my arms are a bit short relative to my height. Not exactly T-Rex, but enough where two inches is what I need. The driver, when set on the ground, just comes up a hair past my belt buckle, so it doesn't feel long to me.

The problem with +2 is swing weight. I am still in the E range, and am playing very light graphite shafts. I tried +2 in a DG S300 and if felt like a sledgehammer (closer to F than to D).

Rodney, very nice write up! :-)

Can you guys explain to me how the fitter can come to the conclusion a shaft isn't giving good dispersion for players who are amateurs and therefore don't have repeatable swings?

Bruh, did you know your swing is so not repeatable?

So if I want a repeatable swing, all I have to do is give up my amateur status. And all this time I've been going to a pro and practicing as much as I can. Such a sucker, been going about this all wrong.
