Gripmaster Stitchback Compared To Iomic

I was just reading the thread on the Iomic grips and I must say, it has me intrigued. I was all set to pull the trigger on another stitchback for my new Beach but now I'm thinking maybe the Iomic. I've never tried the Iomic but I friggin love the feel of the stitchback! Can anyone give me a comparison on the feel differences/similarities of the two? Also, what size Iomic would be closest to the stitchback? That grip feels perfect to me.

Mid-size Iomic = stitchback

 

I have both and I like both of them. I know that this doesnt help but if I had to choose one it would be the leather stitchback. It just feels so perfect.

I've had my Iomic for all of 2008, probably put in 150+ rounds with it. Just washed it up at the end of the season and I'd say you can barely tell it's used. Feel is the exact same as new to me yet.

 

 

As for the comparison...I don't really know you can do that effectively. They're a lot different. You've got size differences, material differences (physical feel), the ever so subjective actual "feel" differences through the stroke, durability differences, etc. I will say though, a good leather grip feels better after it's worn in a little bit. The Iomic stays very consistent.

Oh yeah, a big difference would be what type of weather you play in as well. If it's always hot, humid, and chance of getting it wet from rain...I'd go Iomic. I think the leather would break down if it was always wet. Maybe someone could prove that otherwise though?

I like both but I have Stitchbacks on most of my putters. The Iomics are nice grips and come in some great colors and are easy to match with paintfills

Leather Stitchback is my choice. Have had both a stitchback and Iomic on my putter and while the Iomic had a trusty, familiar feel, the stitchback just took my feel to the next level. I am sure that it will only get better with time. Also, they come in so many color choices now and in my opinion are far more classy.

Just search for "Iomic Gripmaster" and this topic will come up...I'd go with the Iomic: there is no way the Stitchbacks will last longer. If the leather gets rained on, they get hard as a rock. As far as the different textures, it's your personal prefence. Iomics are kinda like a grippier Studio Design.

I love them both. One of the first things I do when I get a putter is switch it to a midsize Iomic. Then I go about "customizing" my Iomic. I don't care for the edges that are prominent on the top edges of the midsize Iomic so I end up sanding them down. :pardon: The stitchback is currently on my tour Bimini. It's got a great feel as well but in yesterdays rain, just wasn't tacky enough to provide a confident feel. I'm contemplating contacting Gripmaster for some tacky juice or just switching it to another Iomic.

I prefer the Winn and the Gripmaster over the Iomic. I also have several with the leather wrap Golf Pride. To me the texture of the Iomic is waxy. The feedback is good, but I find my grip pressure is more important. I don't know if others see this correct or incorrect, but if my hands do not feel comfortable on the grip then feedback to me is irrelevant. It is feedback enough to miss. Even on my irons and woods as well as my putter I do not consider durability or feedback as important as consistent, relaxed grip pressure and the texture of the Iomic makes me feel unsure.

Thanks for the info guys. I may order an Iomic to try for the hell of it ...but I already put in an order for a stitchback :D.

anyone know how to get the stitch backs a little bit tackier? should i slightly wet it? sand it?

I don't like the stitchbacks at all. The rib of stitching bugs me, and I've had a couple that had almost sharp spots. Iomics are great, but I think my favorite grip is a blackout PingMan. Iomics are my second favorite I guess.

 

I can't think of two more different grips than the Iomics and the stitchbacks though. As someone above said, apples and oranges.
