Why less interest on Hogan's swing now?

Recommended Posts

Quite right baloo, noone has ever understood what he really did.

Get so sick of those youtube gurus saying Hogan did this and Hogan did that, they don't have a clue IMHO.

Must say that Virtuoso here gets full marks for effort, intelligence and looking really good.

And a Hogan/Snead take-away is so taboo nowadays most instructors would stop you doing it immediately.

Did he not explain his swing in Five Lessons? His explanation there is quite comprehensive to me

Problem for the individual is they cant understand what they do to explain it in a way that works and make sense.

you have to understand that in 70 years none been able to do what Hogan did in spite of his explanation.

The same thing happen to Mike Austin, he tried to explain and more than 90% of what he said, is wrong.

So nobody is worth listening to? Hogan's explanation looks simple to me. Problem is nobody is doing everything he said because that would mean going back to zero. So we all just get bits and pieces to improve our swing

If he explained it all in 5 lessons, wouldn't that mean there really ain't anything else to discuss?

His swing? No. Many others' swing, yes. What I find funny is people more expert than Hogan on his swing

Step 1. Extensor Action

I think also that hands should got a lot to do with swinging. The waggle action. But not extensor action in the strict sense. All you've got to do to more or less have the same effect is follow what Hogan said in Five Lessons, keep the upper part of the right arm on the side of the chest, keep the right elbow in and still, and hold with last 3 fingers of right hand and press the side of right thumb against side of right index finger. Then push with the right hand and arm like the waggle action. Reads more difficult than a simple "extensor action" though.

Extensor action will not get left arm close enough to the chest on the red zone (impact zone, shaft parallel to impact and beyond), especially with an inert left arm. "You've got to do it with your left arm"!!!
