Scotty Cameron Newport Two putter

picked up real cheap, interested in some info about...

Hey guys I picked up this putter very cheap at a garage sale and I am finally getting around to try and refinish it. This will be my first restoration attempt. You might be thinking that its not smart to test out my skills with a Scotty but I picked it up for next to nothing...($25) at a garage sale last fall. I'm thinking the lady had no clue what she was selling. It wasn't in very good shape when I got it, and I have just taken the paint fill out and smoothed it out a little.

Anyways my question is approximatly how old is this putter? I was looking on wrx and on Ebay and didn't find anything similar. If the pictures aren't too clear on the bottom it just has "Scotty Cameron and The Art of Putting" underneath. On the face it just says "Newport Two".

Do you have any info about it though? When it came out, how much would you say it was worth?

Around 1995 and worth around a $80-120.

Would it be worth restoring and trying to sell for profit? Or better off keeping as a gamer? Not too interested in sending back to Cameron shop and spending $150...

The newport 2 didn't come out until around 97 or 98, I think. See if you can get somebody cheaper to refinish it instead of the Scotty shop. I don't think it has any spectacular value or anything, but if you can get it redone and have less than a c-note in it, you'll have a bargain!

It looks like the face milling marks are fairly low, I would say keeping as a gamer, unless you got it remilled, if you continue sanding it down to get bumps and stuff out the mill marks will be gone, nothing wrong with this, just probably not what people are looking for in a cameron

It looks like it was an oil can model. Id send it to BOS, they a reasonably priced and do great work. Could be worth about 200 after restoration.

Not sure if deerslayer is doing this type of work for others yet (although I don't doubt that he would do a great job)....if I was to have a putter refinished, I would send it to LaMont (golfluvme). Do a search and you'll see a lot of info on him. By the way, I would go with one of his dark polymer coatings.

Great find. It is an Oilcan Classic newport 2 which went into production in 1997. The Newport 2 was introduced in 1996 as a Black Oxide finish. It is still a very desirable model especially when restored by the custom shop. Before the economic downfall they were bringing over $300 and being that yours was an early run signified by the Oval cavity of which some actually came out in the Black Oxide finish instead of the Oil Can finish helped on the resale end. I would dare say that if restored by the custom shop it may still fetch $300 or more being an oval cavity. Best of Luck and once again a great find for the price.
