SM6 Wedges

I agree with the black vs. chrome statement above. Also, there is no difference between the two with spin and groove durability.

Black looks awesome, and if they were just for hanging on the wall, I would go with the black. But chrome is the choice if you're gonna game them for more than a season.

It's funny... I actually prefer the black as I like the look of the wear... plus nothing bothers me more than any type of glare off chrome. Not really that big of issue but still a small factor.

For whatever reason, I enjoy the worn look. I have black Mizzy T5s and the sole is worn through 2 layers now and the inner layer is rusting. Idk why but I think it looks cool.

I got the steel grey, 54-10 S-grind, 58-8 M-grind in DGs200's. I was hesitant at first getting these grinds/bounce b/c I make a good size divot. The M-grind is very versatile around the greens and bunker shots, no prob digging. Using the 54-10 for lower pitches and chips around the greens as well as full shots from 100yds. So far, so good. Like the finish and feel of these as well.

I went black and I love them: 52, 56 and 60

Yes the black wears off the sole and face but I still like them the best.

What grind works best for full swing on a 50 degree.

F Grind works better for me on full swing

Pretty sure F is the only grind available on the 50*

Absolutely no question here. Oil cans and strip 'em raw and use Coke. Be patient. You can afford 72 hours to get a professional result.

As far as grinds, give serious consideration to the V grinds, especially in the lob wedges. The SM2's were the best wedge Vokey ever made, but the SM6 wedges actually surpass those in terms of feel and ball flight controllability.

P.S. I used to drink a lot of Coke. After watching Coke foam and bubble while stripping the finish off my first set of SM2's, I've cut back to one or two Cokes a month.

I initially wanted the black wedges to strip, but Golfsmith only had the chrome ones in the loft/grind I wanted so that's what I went with. Just built them up (54.10 and 60.08 both bent 1* strong, 1* flat) with Tour Issue S400s and Blue NDMCs. Can't wait to game them!

So once the black wedges wear to the point they look bad, can they then be stripped and turned to a raw finish? Or is that something that has to be done from the start?

Yeah I'd be interested to find out the answer to this as well. I'm at the stage of probably needing new wedges (although my SM5's haven't been given that much use) and striping my black SM5's sounds like an interesting experiment.

Anyone try altering the color of the steel grey with soda or vinegar? How did it come out? Pics.....

There is no statute of limitations on stripping a Vokey. And if you like you hit them pure, you can look like a pro with a sweet spot wear mark. If you're a bit off, strip 'em!

I originally wanted the black wedges but where I went didn't have the 56 in the bounce I wanted so on a whim I grabbed all Steel grey. As far as looks go I'm glad I did and not the least bit disappointed in the finish.

The steel grey is a plating color, I don't think soda or vinegar will do anything to the plating.

If the steel grey is a plating color, does that mean the finish won't wear as quickly?

If anything I think they wear a little faster maybe. In limited use I don't see much wear but more than a typical modern chrome.

Steel gray for me and they are damn near perfect. I have the 50/08* "F" grind, 54/08* "M" grind and 58/12* "K" Grind. Great wedges and very very versatile.

I use the chrome versions. For bounce, that hugely personal but I play 3 different grinds.

52 is F, 56 is S and 60 is M.

I have been fitted for those grinds.

Take the time to get properly wedge fitted since they are your scoring clubs.

I still find it amazing people will spent tons of $$$ for a fitted driver that will give them 5-8 yards on course improvement but don't get properly fitted for the rest of the bag and especially short clubs.

yes... you can do it at any point..BUT CLR works better.... you can strip them in an hour or so ..no harm to paint or metal or plastic furell... just dip them , let soak 30 min or so ..pull out and scrub with sponge, mahgic eraser, or scotch brite pad.... rinse in water... if some finish left dunk for second 30 min soak... minehave always been good after 1 and a scrub ...but soemtimes not..... i use this method for maintenance too.. if you dont want a rusty wedge just dip them every month or so ....soak a bit and all rust is gone ..they look new again .... by far the best way to go ..you get a no glare , yet satin chrome look ...for basically free
