Am I the only one who thinks he is not injured and just pulls out of the tournament because he does not want to embarrass himself more this week?

He had no pain yesterday and does not have pain today, he can make full swings without a problem. The spasms sound for me like "let's find some small thing to get us out here without loosing face". I don't condemn him for that, I can understand.

 

We will see him again, but he really has to improve his game. I don't understand how critical most people here talk about his back. Seems like everyone analyzes each swing in detail in slo-mo and trying to see a glimpse of pain. We have seen only three rounds, but the truth is, he played golf for months now without pain, otherwise he would not be there. The back/pain issue is not as big, his game is just off!

Very sad, he deserved a better career end.

 

Imho the best would be to announce his retirement the week before the Masters and be the third honorary starter at Augusta starting from this year, would be a great way to celebrate Arnie too.

His career reminds me quite a bit of Seve. A dominant champion playing a different game to the rest who lost his game looking for new swings with different coaches. Sad to see such giants of the game reduced to shadows of their former selves.

What possible interest could the champions tour hold for tiger? He has always been about major championships and breaking records. I just couldn't see him getting motivated for anything but the highest level of competition.

I am surprised by the number of allegations here of dishonesty on Tiger's part or that of his agent. All from people who clearly know more than everyone else. The internet disease of needing to convey knowledge over others strikes again.

Yet another player who doesn't swing the club and ends up injured. Sure Phil sprays it around here and there but is 46 and no back issues.

During an interview after the proam a journalist was saying how Tiger was walking like he was on ice. Sort of figured after hearing that news thatmit would be a short week. May just be an abundance of caution.

I am a Tiger fan but a realist. In another thread people were talking about the unusual look on Tigers face in the first round. I am afraid that may have been the look of a man that knows its over, no matter how bad he wants it not to be.

Watch his tee shot on hole number 1 yesterday. That was not a grimace of frustration. That was pain. I knew it as soon as I saw that shot and the way he walked right after that he was hurting. He also hit some shots with a sawed off finish where the shot called for a full finish. No doubt in my mind he is hurt again. Question is how bad and for how long.

It was because if he took his plane it would take a lot longer as it would need to refuel. The commercial flight was non-stop. They were talking about it on the commentary yesterday.

Watched Tigers full round yesterday. Was terrible from go to whoa. As others have said, he was grimacing in pain from the start. Looked clearly in pain and unable to move freely. At one stage he had to smash his wedge into the ground to help him out the bunker.

The problem is he's never managed to completely rid himself of the Haney swing.

 

Way too far inside coming down. Looks like a guy standing in his front yard trying to hook the ball around the house into the back yard.

 

His record during the Haney years was built entirely on being the best putter and short game artist in history. Yet an entire generation has copied that swing. McIlroy has the same tendencies and is injured way too much for a man his age. Same with Jason Day. It's also the reason we see more great players hitting shanks than we have ever seen before.

 

With Butch, Tiger's club was right between his elbows on the downswing. Right where it should be.

 

Hopefully it's just a case of pride being hurt more than anything else, combined with some dehydration.

You have to wonder the thinking behind playing Torrey and then flying across the world to play Dubai. For coming back from back surgery it seems you would want to ease back into it.
