Bettinardi C vs Odyssey Black

Canuck

Recommended Posts

please compare the two
Since I am seriously experimenting with switching to a toe weighted putter, I am having a blast getting to know the Black series #1 I picked up last month.

However, getting my paws on some of the other big name quality putters has been difficult up here in Canada.

But, I just found the Bettinardi C series and on sale! Half price.

How do they compare to the Blacks?

THANKS!

The Bettinardi is better and has a better alingment device.

Didn't I say that you were well on your way to becoming a putter ho!!

Bettinardi's are great...you can't go wrong...but I also really like the Odyssey Black Series (I just purchased a #2 model which is on it's way). The Bettinardi will have a more "plain" look which some people prefer, but I would venture to say that both will perform well.

Both are very underrated putters IMO.

WHAT HAVE YOU GUYS DONE TO ME!!!!!

I actually have no problem with the sight line on the Black. I know some prefer a line on the top, but it doesn't bother me on the #1. It did on the #5 Tour I have and I added a line on the top of that one.

As far as the look, I actually like the look of the #1. Think it's really sharp.

Again, I haven't used a toe weighted putter in a while (since a Scotty about 6-7 years ago), so maybe it's easier for me to adjust to the Black's look and lines than it would for other folks.

Keep the comparisons coming. Love to hear about feel, sweetspots, weight......

Finally had a chance to get out to the store that had a Bettinardi C series 03. Now I can compare for myself.

First off, very nice looking. Sharper angles than the more rounded Black #1. Put as nice a roll with it as the Black. Ended up liking the Black better mainly because it has a heavier head that allowed a better release for me.

But here's the surprise of the day. Also picked up a Redwood Anser. WOW. Loved the solid feel and the weight . Has a slightly heavier head than the Black. Very impressive. Real quality.

Ended up trying the Ping and the Odyssey head to head, over and over, for at least 45 minutes to see if one indeed suited me better. From 6 feet and about 20 feet. Even had the guy working there watching my rolls to see if he saw anything.

In the end, it was a virtual tie. He thought I put a more consistent stroke with the Black. I thought that was more attributable to the fact I have been practicing with a Black for a few weeks now. Also thought the roll, aim and feel was super with both.

I will stay with the Black that I have. Know that the Redwood, since it's a later model, will still be there for me to try again in the golf season. Can't come soon enough!

You're comparing two of my favorite putters. I have 2 suggestions for you:

1. If you like the looks of the Bettinardi better, but the feel of the Odyssey better...get your hands on a Black Series #2.

2. If your only dislike of the C-03 was the weight, try to find a C-03H which is the slightly heavier one at around 345g.

Driver: Ping G30
3-Wood: Ping G30
Hybrid: Adams Idea Pro
Irons: Mizuno JPX921 Hot Metal Pro
Wedges: Scratch 1018
Putter: Scotty Cameron Red X5

Yeah good points. Afraid I'm a freak as I play right but putt left. Dont believe that the 02 comes in left.

Was really dificult to find the C series in Canada, let alone a CH. As a matter of fact, the Redwood was similar to a heavier C.

The BETTINARDI C series with H on the end of the series number (sole of the putter), should be just found on the 34 inch model (to make it heavier to account for the inch shorter shaft from the 35 inch). I had a C-01H on a 34 inch shaft and found the head weight too light for my swing. It is traded and replaced with two heavier models of another brand.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have both a Bettinardi Mizuno C-01H and a Odyssey Black Series #2 (that I picked up from one of the earlier posters - thanks MchSt805!!). I love them both. I think the Mizuno looks much prettier, while I am so much more confident with the roll on my Black #2. It definitely feels heavier than the Mizuno - that combined with the fact that I've got my grip of choice on it is probably the difference. So I couldn't be happier with both - one for show and the other for dough...

Also tried the Redwood - I really liked that too except the number of Ping stamps on it just made it visually unappealing.

Can't go wrong with any of those choices really...
