Titleist 718 T-MB Irons

Recommended Posts

So it seems like the only improvement is they've made them more forgiving, and they modified the amount of the PVD finish? The only "problem" I have with the 716's is they don't feel like buttery blades. They feel good compared to any forgiving club out there. They were just as forgiving as my Cally XR Pro's but felt 1,000 times better.

If they could put something in them to make them feel even better, then I'd think about switching.

for me the T-MB long irons are 7-10 yards longer in carry distance than any long iron i have ever hit. The hollow design and thin face definitely help there. As far as forgiveness they are IMHO slightly more forgiving than the AP2's. The heel and toe tungsten weighting alone make them more forgiving. I know they are slightly stronger however i have hit jacked up lofted irons before that didn't give results like these. I have compared them directly with my son's 714 AP2's with the 3 and 4 irons. More distance, equally as accurate, they sound different and i like it.

Great details. I really want to pull the trigger. There are a couple of nice sets on the BST. Come on tax refund...

Get some hotmelt in them if you can. Made mine feel and sound better

How much did you have to put in them to change the feel? I don't really want to change the weight of them.

7 grams, 3 in the toe to get just a hint of fade, plays D4 right now. Could always grind a little at the trailing edge or backside to take away the same weight you add inside

As to the forgiveness, I mean really, how much more could they actually build in?

Same question here, and wouldn't that make the AP2's thing of the past?

Pretty different launch and spin models on AP2 Vs T-MB.

I prefer the mbs of the previous years (690mb, 712mb, 714mb, and 716 mb)

I agree with this statement. Titleist has always made some very sweet MB's but hollow blades? I played MP-H5's for a short while but have no where near the feel of my current 945's Hollow irons will help launch easier but I'd be surprised if they are as workable as say the 690's.. These will undoubtedly sell very well and look very good but I just don't see them being an improvement over previous MB irons from Titleist.

Anyway they look great and may turn out to be great performers. Good luck. I'd recommend trying a set of 945's before dropping the coin on these, easy to work and feel is phenomenal. Good luck guys.

I would say that the TMB's are not for people that normally play blades and have no issues with blades. If you are looking for the super soft feel and flight of blades, then you should stick with blades. TMB's are essentially a game improvement club in the shape of a blade. Tons of forgiveness and decent, but not great, feel. It's that rare club that has forgiveness, but little offset and looks like a blade at address. It's really for people looking for that club.

If I were to change from them, it would be to a true blade, but my game still isn't to that point anymore so I'll stick with these.

Hope they made some impressive improvements as the 716 T-MB was very hard/harsh feeling.

Dumped them for the 0311T PXG and no contest.

Doubt they have added anything to that hollow head to make an improvement.

Also, noted that they were higher launching? They were already too high launching for me...PXG again much better.

LOL

Cue the PXG iron and towel pic.....

So are Sixion 965 without The Cost

No different the Mizuno or other named Brand...Clubs seem to me all in the same prices range depend on your choice.

I agree. For blades choose instead other Titleist models like 712, 714, 716 mbs.

Hopefully they decide to make a flatter head...Cant even get more than 2 degrees flat now. I love titliest but I have never been able to game the irons because of this. I'M PRAYING

Don't hold your breath. I play my irons 2º up and my T-MB is pretty much bang on for lie angle without touching it. Titleist has always made the most upright irons of any major OEM

Good post ^

I'm not switching from mine anytime soon. Played a full season (80+ rounds) with them, and LOVE them.

The truly are a RARE combination of look and playability and distance.

That being said, the 718 will be ordered day #1 they have a US release (as long as they continue to include the gap wedge as part of the set)

i love the look and feel of the tmb but they launch soooooooo damn high. Higher then my AP1s.

Agreed...and I tried them with the AMT x100 shaft (which is low launching).

FairwayFred said his PXGs were lower launching and so I tried them...BINGO!

Much better launch and feel

This is a good observation. But if Titleist will bend them 2 degrees flat (and understanding that full sets of T-MB's are all MOTO anyway in the USA), you get to something that is Mizuno-like. A Mizuno 5-iron is generally 37.75" and about 60.50 degrees, right? A Titleist T-MB 5-iron, if you ordered it custom (at ".25" short and 2 degrees flat, please") would be about the same.

The T-MB's would logically be harder to bend your self. Multi-piece irons would have to be more fragile in a bending machine. But has anybody ever broken a T-MB while bending it? I'm curious.

I've seen a full set of T-MB's in person. They looked gorgeous. And my own current set of irons are Titleist 680's. They aren't the same thing by a long shot, but both sets look great in their own way.

Agree to disagree. The shapes of Titleist's irons and wedges are what have always appealed the most to me. To my eye they frame the ball perfectly. Everyone has their own "flavor" I suppose. :drinks:

These are more bendable than most people think. I was able to get mine 2 flat from standard without any problem. If anything heat up the hosel a little bit with a heat gun.
