Immelman, Leonard and other pros on TGC. Why?

Curious as to what the motivation would be for these guys to stop playing and work on TGC.

Is it the money? In their hey-day they probably made more in a year that I have in a life-time. Do they really need the cash that bad?

Have they lost the motivation to play? Why not play web.com and try to get your card back? Immelman is only 37 years old for Pete's sake!

Given years of constant travel, enough money to be relatively comfortable, why continue to beat your head against the wall? Why not work 20-30 hours a week pretty much saying whatever you want to (most of it with little insight) and go back to your McMansion outside of Orlando most nights?

LOL, you don't think Immelman has been trying to get back????

Leonard is probably just biding his time until he's old enough

for the Champs tour.

I'm not complaining, would much rather see more guys who have been on the tour and had success to share their opinions and insights.

Johnny Miller commented when he took his first announcing job, his wife said "Finally, we will have a consistent pay check".

Grinding it out in your 40s can't be at all fun. Especially for someone like Leonard, where the current crop of short knockers are out driving you by 20 yards.

They've had their day. There's no going back to 1999.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Wonder what you think is fake about Chamblee? As much as we might not like it, he's been dead on about TW- has said his changes can't hold up, he said years ago he was going to hurt himself working out so much. Guy can't even sit down and talk now, and isn't looking like he will play much more. All the while people lap up his thoughts of being encouraged by a top 20 in an 18 player field and "no worries, just back spasms". Clearly TW lives in fantasy and lies more than all of our elected officials combined. Meanwhile BC has been spot on his analysis and yet gets flamed for being right because it isn't popular.

The animosity is more than just his TW comments. He posted and argued for days on twitter than 30/32 players at the ToC hit down on their driver, before admitting he was looking at the wrong track man numbers. He always posts 2d pictures from different angles to support his "universal truths". He rubs people the wrong way because he isn't prepared to debate or change his mind...witness his flare up with Duval last year.

Both are very short hitters, which pretty much means you can't compete on tour these days.

You mean his debate where he said the US better show up to play this year or they will get trounced again and the Ryder Cup might become a bit of a joke? He was right. DD just took it personally.

thank you very much. He is like this southern used car sales guy...underneath is a fraud. He predicted Tiger's swing won't hold up and cause injury? when? He said Tiger's swing wasn't right...not cause injuries...and still waiting for his second coming on tour, because the first one sure won a lot didn't? he knows so much about the swing....go to the senior tour qualifying and make the cut with your tahatha swing endorsements..Just another guy filling his pockets with loot.

It's simple, they need to make a living. These guys have a ton of expenses as former highly paid pro golfers who settled into a luxorious lifestyle. Huge homes, cars, wives, kids, families, hobbies etc etc and now they cant make cuts so how do they pay for life? Guys like leonard, immelman, duval would give anything for a golf channel tv gig and steady check.

It's not money it's a fall back position that they can try and see if they like. They aren't making big bucks there

I'm sure Trevor would rather play and Justin still can play. When he's 50 he will win 5 times in 2 years

I think you are wrong about Justin....but we will see. Are the courses really that short?

It was his approach rather than whether he was right or wrong that bugged me. He pitched his idea as the "truth", got challenged, got defensive and refused to budge. His response to the trackman debate (when evidence that disagreed with his opinion was presented) was simply to say that launch monitors weren't accurate and that Jack and Hogan never needed a launch monitor to shoot good score.

We're not gonna agree here, but tha is why BC rubs so many people the wrong way.

I just checked. Justin Leonard isn't doing badly cash-wise. 20th in lifetime earnings at $33.8 million ....... plus endorsements etc. I'd take it.

Justin Leonard = terrible announcer/analyst. I was willing to give him a few weeks to get better, but the dude has nothing to say. I've actually met him and even caddied for him at a fundraiser once. Really nice guy and obviously a tremendous player. But clearly the guy is not interesting on TV. Why do the networks keep doing this to us?

David Duval on the other hand is really on the rise. He gives you plenty of insight into what a player is thinking and is not afraid to say something a little edgy.

If I remember the debate and Duval's anger was not over whether the US should show up, it was something along the lines of its up to the Top player on the team (Tiger in this case) to win or lose the cup on their own. Duval said this was wrong and it was a team event and when you play alternate shot how can one man be the sole person responsible for a win or a loss. Chamblee just kept going back to "nope its Tigers fault the team lost because he didn't play better"

It was a while ago and I don't have the time or inclination to look up exactly was said but I do know that they were not arguing over whether the US Team needed to show "show up" or they would get trounced.
