Permanently take away a man's livelihood for throwing his putter in a lake?

And then what do we do about Rory's club throwing tantrums or Tigers cussing on national tv. They are real people not super humans. They get frustrated just like you and me

I've played inside the ropes with some big names. If you heard the mouth on many of these guys, I can't even imagine what kind of punishment that would deserve. Guillotine probably according to the logic of the OP.

While I don't agree that John should be banned for a club toss, I find it amusing how Daly apologists always attribute his 25 year history of word not allowed behavior to creepy fairy tales.

"Give the guy a break, DEMONS"

"When it comes to big john, You have to just let him behave in any childish, compulsively self absorbed way he wants, because, well demons"

"I'm not saying it's demons, But it's demons"

"Geez so much hate for Big JD! He's the every man hero! Blue collar guy! Chicks dig the long ball! and he's got those damned demons!"

"Yes I know John is a chain smoking, drunken compulsive gambler who pretty much cares about himself and that's it. But demons"

For once, i actually agree with something KYMAR has written.

Don't go all 'puppy dog' now!

I don't know for sure, but I think JD has some demons he's been battling from the get go. As far as his drinking goes, I don't think that was the problem, but the symptom.

It's easy to criticize him, but I for one will refrain, as I have no idea what is going on on the inside.

I am not saying JD has a mental illness, what I am saying is an individual can look fine on the outside, and battle an insidious illness on the inside.

Oh I know his ups and downs, he's born in '66, just like me.

Which shows that he doesn't want to put work in the thing that made him famous: His sport. He looks like Old Fatso (again, 5 years ago he was in good shape), still WDs from tournaments if things aren't going his way and can't put a string of solid rounds together. Given the enormous talent he seems to have he is one big disappointment, the King of Underachievers.

You could say that, sure. And you might be right. Personally, if I'm just taking him at his word, if he were to practice a lot more than he EVER has, he wouldn't play better. He said in his book he never really practiced that much. I still maintain that if he had changed his lifestyle, put away the smokes and booze, stop eating 12-18 bags of Peanut M&M's each round -- if he had done all of that he'd have never won two majors.

How is it possible this clown hasn't been publicly chastised and suspended from PGA Tour golf? He is a petulant and immature...who clearly needs significant help with several issues.

None of this is news to anyone. I cannot imagine a reasonable justification for him not getting some Pete Rose level of reprimand. This has been going on far too long. ENOUGH ALREADY.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about someone else...

I dunno guys.. I have a hard time dwelling on criticizing others when I have some imperfections myself that I can improve on... at some point you have to ask yourself... which of the two would be a better investment of my time?

i think he is a jackass and alot of wasted talent. Just curious for those who disagree, why do you like him?

Because inspite of It all he's a better man than a lot of the p****s out there. How's that for an answer ?

Rory threw an iron into a lake a couple years ago. People seem to think he has the innocence of an infant.

Maybe just calm down a little with JD. A fine should be given, yes. This is nowhere near Pete Rose though. Maybe do a something search of Pete Rose to refresh yourself on his misdoings.

I play regularly with the most even keeled man I know. He's whipped a club off the tee twice, like 50 yards down the fairway, seemingly out of nowhere. Did I like it? Not really. Did I tell him that he's more accurate throwing his clubs? Yes. Similar to JD, my buddy both times was prepping for big tournaments, one of which was PGA Tour Q school. In both instances, he got injured a week or so before and couldn't make a solid move on the ball. It's a very frustrating thing working so hard on something only to have an injury not allow you to do it how you've been practicing.

OK....but what does that have to do with JD? Cm'on he ain't practicing. He didn't qualify to play. He repeatedly walks off when his game isn't on. All in all it seems like his major current accolade is "he is not a mean drunk".

I don't believe for a second he isn't practicing. I'm also certain he hates playing bad. He isn't showing up to play bad and way behind the pack. Chances are, he's practicing and can't find his old game. It's an extremely frustrating thing. I'm a professional golfer, well in the plus range, and shot an 89 last year. I didn't just want to quit golf. I also wanted to smash my car, my phone, my clubs, my skull, etc., and I'm a mellow person (I didn't do any of those things by the way, but it took restraint). JD is a former multiple major winner, and has been experiencing that for two decades, on a scale a billion times bigger.

At least he's still out there trying. So many guys have been through that, been afraid to play more on a public stage, and went to the booth instead.

Except he didn't qualify.

Got some sort of explanation for that ? Two time major winner over 50. What other qualifications are needed ?

So I see the tool known as "Long John" finally showed up on the Champions tour. How is it possible this clown hasn't been publicly chastised and suspended from PGA Tour golf? He is a petulant and immature 50+yr old. who clearly needs significant help with several issues.

Hell I'll say it. Pete did more good for the game of baseball than bad. I don't agree with his lifetime ban. Especially not when there are 100s of juicers who got a free pass.

No it doesn't for most people. The high road is far less traveled but I'm sure you know this.

After all it's far more easy to overly criticize others and as a bonus you don't need to face up to being honest about yourself.

IMHO though even though the world does not work this way it would be the more mature and beneficial thing to do.

The fact that so few choose to do so is a pity don't you think?

There are certain rules for club throwing. (Not applicable for those throwing clubs into a lake).

1. Always throw the club towards your next shot. If you helicopter it behind you, you will just slow down the group behind you. Never slow down the group behind you. Never.

2. If it is your putter, make your toss towards the next tee box, preferably over a large tree, for dramatic effect.

3. If it is indeed your putter, make sure the group in front of you is off the tee box.

4. Play your next round with a gymnast so he can retrieve the putter from the top of the tree you didn't clear on your last round.

Preach!

I'm a Dodgers fan ( for you youngins, the Reds used to be in the NL West ) but Pete was my favorite player. He should definitely be in the HOF.

ok, but wears pants like that and has been divorced 4 times

Yes, you stated very clearly you don't like him and then asked why other people do. You got a response and now seem to want to rebut that.

Why didn't you just say you wanted to argue with someone about Daly?

When in doubt, always judge a man by the pants he wears.

I judge Billy Horschel harshly for those hot pink monstrosities he wears.

And his lisping ... :stink:

Elk told a funny Daly story last week on the Jim Rome show.

Worst post ever.

I can't read anymore of this so I will post now and this I agree. As bad as JD can be, nothing could top the arrogance and jock itch mentality of Steve Elkington. This guy is a total POS in my opinion and to me best exemplifies what a golfer should not be.

I had a hard time with JD when he first came out but through the years I have really grown to like the guy. I sincerely believe he means well and I love watching him. I hope he can get it together.

Maybe it was last month, I was watching some of the father/son tourney. JD was playing with his son, and he looked to be maybe 12-13? I watched him hit an approach and a few putts. Same exact mannerisms as JD, always showing emotion after a shot that didn't please him, which was every one I saw. I kept thinking if that were my son we would have a very stern father to son discussion about proper expectations, sportsmanship etc. I hope JD can at least get that part right with the kids but it must be hard when you can't live it yourself.

And finally, yeah this is the Champion's Tour. They come to The Woodlands I think every year. But I don't care to fight traffic/parking to follow a bunch of has beens.
