What Makes You Cheer For A PGA Player?

I like to root for guys who act like they've been there before even if they haven't. It's fun to watch DJ go out and destroy a golf course while looking like he's out there just testing clubs. His demeanor cracks me up!

Hard for me to answer because for me because there is not 1 trait that defines it.

DJ just seems so dumb and aloof at times but his pure talent, power and speed of play is refreshing to see

Help me out with the "DJ is dumb" mantra I keep hearing. Yes, most have heard the rumors of why he took the "self imposed" hiatus, also most have heard that he isn't the "brightest bulb in the bunch..."

I keep waiting for him to say something reflective of stupidity in an interview and it never happens. I guess you could call the whistling straights bunker situation a less than brilliant, but I give him a total pass on that. What else has he done or said that reeks of stupid?

I actually think he sounds rather lucid and quick minded in his post round interviews. To me he sounds more together than most. What am I missing?

Probably where they're from. When I first started getting into golf, I rooted for Jose Maria Olazabal because he was a fellow Basque. Plus, I would always laugh when he cursed in Basque after a bad shot. When Jose was done, I found myself rooting for Sergio and Rory. Not sure why, but I like their games. Now I find myself back on the Basque train and rooting for Jon Rahm.

I like Dustin Johnson. He perambulates down the fairway like James Dean cruising the streets of NYC. He doesn't seem to let anything bother him. The only downside is he is a bit short...

Going back a generation I like Paul Goydos. Great, dry wit.

I like watching the best when they are on their game. It shows us what is possible.

I like watching Phil because you just know he is going to do Phil things. Like hit it in a ball washer and chip it in from there.

I like watching guys who seem genuinely nice and seem to really enjoy playing golf for a living. Kevin Na has his on course demons for sure but he battles them with a smile on his face.

Not sure i would go as far as calling it dumb, but it sure was comical. Few yrs back, guy was interviewing DJ after a round and asked, "so what is it that you think is keeping you from breaking thru to the next level of really elite players, winning that first major? Obviously you are one of the best drivers of the ball, is it your short game?" DJ in that SC drawl responds with, "Naw, I think my short game is fine. I would say my wedges and probably putting. But the short game is ok."........Say what....did he really just say that on live tv....what other short game is there DJ?????
